Folic acid forte, tablets 5 mg 20 pcs

Compensates for the deficiency of folic acid, stimulates erythropoiesis.

Folic acid is folacin, water-soluble folate, vitamin B9. In the body it is converted to tetrahydrofolic acid, necessary for the maturation of megaloblasts and their transformation into normoblasts.

In its deficiency the megaloblastic type of hematopoiesis develops. It plays an important role in the metabolism of purines and pyrimidines, nucleic acid synthesis, amino acid metabolism (glycine, methionine and histidine).

After oral administration folic acid combines in the stomach with intrinsic Castl’s factor (a specific glycoprotein) and is absorbed in the upper duodenum.

It is almost completely bound to plasma proteins. It is activated in the liver under the influence of the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase and is converted into tetrahydrofolic acid. Cmax in blood is reached after 30-60 min. It is excreted by kidneys both as unchanged and as metabolites.

Indications

Megaloblastic anemia, sprue, drug and radiation anemia and leukopenia, post-resection anemia, chronic gastroenteritis, intestinal tuberculosis, folic acid deficiency.

Prevention of folic acid deficiency in the body (including during pregnancy and lactation).

Composition

1 tablet contains folic acid 5 mg.

How to take, the dosage

For therapeutic purposes, adults – 5 mg / day; children – in smaller doses depending on age. The course of treatment is 20-30 days.
For the prevention of folic acid deficiency in the body is used in doses of 20-50 mcg / day.

The daily requirement for folic acid is 25 micrograms for children: 1-6 months – 25 micrograms; 6-12 months – 35 micrograms; 1-3 years – 50 micrograms; 4-6 years – 75 micrograms; 7-10 years – 100 micrograms; 11-14 years – 150 micrograms; 15 years and older – 200 micrograms.
During pregnancy – 400 micrograms/day, during lactation – 300 micrograms/day.

Interaction

In concomitant use with chloramphenicol, neomycin, polymyxins, tetracyclines absorption of folic acid is reduced.
In concomitant use folic acid reduces the effects of phenytoin, primidone, PASK, sulfasalazine, oral hormonal contraceptives, chloramphenicol.
Folic acid increases metabolism of phenytoin.

Special Instructions

In pernicious anemia folic acid should be used only together with cyanocobalamin, because folic acid stimulating hemopoiesis does not prevent the development of neurological complications (including funicular myelosis).

Long-term use of folic acid (especially in high doses) is not recommended because of the risk of decreasing the concentration of cyanocobalamin in the blood.

Contraindications

Folic acid can be used during pregnancy and lactation in the recommended doses.
