Enterofuryl, 200 mg/5 ml suspension 90 ml

Entrofulil^® is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial drug with no systemic action, used for treatment of diarrhea of infectious etiology.

The drug Entherofuryl^® contains the active substance nifuroxazide, a drug of the group of 5-nitrofuran derivatives. The drug has a bactericidal and bacteriostatic effect against most pathogens of acute intestinal infections.

Antimicrobial action of nifuroxazide is dose-dependent: thus, low and medium doses of the drug have a bacteriostatic effect against pathogenic microflora, and high – bactericidal.

Bacteriostatic mechanism of action of the drug is associated with inhibition of dehydrogenase enzyme activity, which leads to disruption of the normal course of synthesis of vital compounds in the cell of the microorganism. Thus, due to the effect of nifuroxazide on the microbial cell there is a disruption of the respiratory chain and inhibition of the tricarboxylic acid cycle.

In addition, the drug Entherofuryl^® inhibits protein synthesis in the microorganism cell and inhibits other biochemical processes in the bacterial cell. Thus, the microorganism cell loses its ability to reproduce.

Indications

Poisoning, Colic, Diarrhea, Intestinal infections, SalmonellosisDiarrhea of bacterial genesis, chronic GIT lesions of bacterial etiology, accompanied by dyspeptic phenomena.

Nifuroxazide

Composition

5 ml of oral suspension contains:

the active substance:

nifuroxazide 200 mg,

excipients:

sucrose – 1000 mg;

sodium hydroxide – 2 mg;

methylparahydroxybenzoate – 5 mg;

ethanol 96% – 0.05 ml;

carbomer – 10.5 mg;

citric acid – 0.75 mg;

banana flavoring – 10 mg;

water – up to 5 ml.

How to take, the dosage

Oral.

Therapy with Nifuroxazide should not last more than 7 days. For dosing a dosage spoon of 5 ml with graduation of 2.5 ml is used. The suspension should be shaken well before use.

Children 1-6 months: 2.5 ml 2-3 times a day (at intervals of 8 to 12 hours).

Children 7 months – 2 years: 2.5 ml 4 times a day (at intervals of 8 hours).

Children 3-7 years old: 5 ml 3 times a day (at intervals of 8 hours).

Adults and children over 7 years: 5 ml 3-4 times a day (at intervals of 6-8 hours).

Special Instructions

In the treatment of diarrhea, rehydration therapy (oral or intravenous) should be given concomitantly with nifuroxazide therapy according to the patient’s condition and the intensity of the diarrhea.

The use of alcohol during therapy with nifuroxazide is prohibited.

Before prescribing the suspension in infants it is necessary to rule out congenital deficiency of sucrose digesting enzymes.

Influence on driving and operating machinery

The drug does not affect psychomotor performance and ability to drive and operate machinery.

Contraindications

– Hypersensitivity to nitrofuran derivatives or other drug components;

– fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome or insufficiency of sugar and isomaltase;

– newborn period (less than 1 month), prematurity.

Side effects

Allergic reactions (rash, urticaria, Quincke’s edema, anaphylactic shock), nausea, vomiting.

Overdose

The drug is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and does not enter the systemic circulation.

The symptoms of overdose are not known.

In case of overdose, gastric lavage and symptomatic treatment are recommended.

Pregnancy use

The use of the drug Entrofulil in pregnancy is possible only in cases when the expected benefits of therapy for the mother exceed the potential risk to the fetus.

Entrofuryl is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and does not enter the systemic circulation, but the drug may be used during lactation only with strict indications, in this case the question about stopping breast-feeding should be solved.
