Differin, cream 0.1% 30 g

Différin is a comedolytic, anti-inflammatory.

Pharmacodynamics

Adapalene – a metabolite of retinoid, has comedonolytic and anti-inflammatory activity, normalizes the processes of keratinization and epidermal differentiation.

The mechanism of action of adapalene is based on interaction with specific γ-receptors of epidermal skin cells. As a result of the action of adapalene, in particular, the “adhesion” of epithelial cells at the mouth of the follicle and the reduction of preconditions for the formation of microcomedones.

Adapalen has an anti-inflammatory effect in vivo and in vitro, acting on inflammatory factors by inhibiting the migration of leukocytes in the inflammation focus and arachidonic acid metabolism.

Pharmacokinetics

The absorption of adapalene through the skin is very low (about 4% of the applied dose). Excretion from the body occurs mainly through the bile.

Indications

Acne of mild to moderate severity, including the presence of comedones, papules and pustules.

Pharmacological effect

Differin® cream is a drug for the treatment of mild to moderate acne, including the presence of comedones, papules and pustules.

Cream for acne, blackheads and blackheads acts on the causes of acne and has a complex effect:

• A remedy for acne on the face affects comedones and prevents the appearance of new rashes (reduces the formation of microcomedones);
• The components of the anti-acne drug have comedolytic and anti-inflammatory activity;
• Cream for acne and pimples is not an antibiotic, so it does not cause resistance in Cutibacterium acnes;
• Clinical improvement develops after 4-8 weeks of treatment, persistent improvement after a 3-month course of treatment.

Differin® cream for acne on the face should be applied in a thin layer to acne-affected areas of the skin 1 time a day before bedtime on clean, dry skin, avoiding contact of the drug with the eyes, lips, mucous membranes and corners of the nose. The drug should be stored out of the reach of children at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Do not freeze.

If you suspect a hypersensitivity reaction or severe skin irritation, discontinue use of the drug.

In some cases, depending on the degree of skin irritation, the number of applications may be reduced or treatment suspended until signs of irritation disappear. Resumption of treatment is possible after consultation with a doctor.
Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, corners of nose and mucous membranes. If the drug accidentally gets on the mucous membranes of the eyes, rinse them with warm water.
The drug should not be applied to skin damaged as a result of injury (cuts or abrasions), sunburn or eczematous skin.

For the treatment of severe nodular and conglobate acne, systemic antibacterial drugs + adapalene, benzoyl peroxide or a combination of adapalene + benzoyl peroxide are used. In this case, adapalene can be used to treat acne on the face, chest or back, under the supervision of a doctor.
However, adapalene should not be used in motor therapy in patients with severe acne over large areas of the skin.

To avoid skin irritation when using adapalene, minimize exposure to sunlight and artificial ultraviolet radiation, including sunlight lamps, and artificial ultraviolet radiation, including sunlight lamps. If it is not possible to avoid exposure, it is recommended to use sunscreen and clothing to protect the treated skin areas.

When using the drug Differin®, it is possible to use cosmetics that do not have comedogenic or astringent agents.

Differin® cream contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E2018) and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), which may cause allergic reactions during or after treatment.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Clinical experience with topical use of adapalene during pregnancy is limited, but available data in patients receiving the drug in early pregnancy do not indicate its negative effect on the course of pregnancy or on the health of the fetus.

Due to the limited nature of the available data, and also due to the possibility of minor penetration of adapalene through the skin, Differin® should not be used during pregnancy.
If pregnancy occurs, treatment should be discontinued.

Breastfeeding period.
No studies have been conducted on the penetration of the drug into animal or human breast milk after application to the skin.

Since systemic exposure to Differin® in breastfeeding women is negligible, no effects are expected on breastfed infants. Differin® can be used during breastfeeding.

To avoid contact of an infant with the drug, when using Differin® during breastfeeding, application to the breast area should be avoided.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to adapalene or any of the excipients;
• Children under 12 years of age (the safety and effectiveness of the drug for this age category has not been established)

Interaction

Absorption of adapalene through the skin is low, so it is unlikely to interact with systemic medications.

There are no interactions with other drugs that can be used externally and simultaneously with Differin®. When using Differin® cream in the evening, in the morning you can use such drugs for external treatment of acne, such as solutions of erythromycin (up to 4%) or clindamycin phosphate (1% in terms of base) or water-based benzoyl peroxide gels (up to 10%), since these drugs do not cause mutual degradation or cumulative irritation. However, other retinoids or drugs with a similar mechanism of action should not be used simultaneously with adapalene.

The simultaneous use of Differin® and peeling agents, abrasive cleansers, as well as products with a drying, astringent or irritating effect (aromatic or alcohol-containing products) is not recommended.

Overdose

Excessive application of the drug to the skin will not lead to faster results or a more pronounced effect, however, redness, peeling or discomfort may develop.

Differin® cream is for external use only. In case of accidental ingestion of even a small amount of the drug, the stomach should be rinsed and, if necessary, symptomatic therapy should be carried out.

Recommendations for use

Since alternation of therapy methods is common in the treatment of acne, after 3 months of drug therapy it is recommended to consult a doctor about further therapy.
