Diclofenac, 1% ointment 30 g

Diclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects. It inhibits COX enzyme in the cascade of arachidonic acid metabolism and disrupts prostaglandin biosynthesis.

When used externally it has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.

Limits and relieves pain at the site of application of the ointment (including joint pain at rest and on movement), reduces morning stiffness and joint swelling. Helps to increase range of motion.

Composition

Active ingredient: diclofenac sodium – 1.0 g;

Auxiliary substances: dimethyl sulfoxide – 10 g, macrogoal-1500 – 30 g, macrogoal-400 – 49 g, propylene glycol – 10 g.

Interaction

The use of the drug with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is not recommended.

Diclofenac may increase the effect of drugs that cause photosensitization.

Clinically significant interaction with other medicinal products has not been described.

Directions for use

Special Instructions

Use only externally. The ointment may only be applied to intact skin areas. No occlusive dressing should be applied after application of the ointment. Patients with gastric and duodenal ulcer disease, hepatic, renal or hematopoietic disorders as well as concomitant use of other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should consult a physician before using. When using the drug together with other diclofenac dosage forms, the maximum daily dose should be considered.

Long-term use and/or application to large surfaces may lead to systemic side effects due to resorptive action. Contact of the drug with eyes, mucous membranes or open wounds should be avoided.

Impact on the ability to drive and operate machinery

The drug has no effect on the ability to drive a car and other mechanical devices.

Side effects

The incidence of side effects is classified according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization: very frequently – at least 10%; frequently – at least 1%, but less than 10%; infrequently – at least 0.1%, but less than 1%; rarely – at least 0.01%, but less than 0.1%; very rarely, including individual reports – less than 0.01%.

Local reactions: infrequent – erythema multiforme (including Stevens-Johnson syndrome), eczema, very rare – contact dermatitis (itching, hyperemia, swelling of the treated skin area, papulosis-vesicular rash, peeling).

If the ointment is applied to large surfaces of the skin, for a long period of time, it is possible to develop systemic side effects of diclofenac.

Systemic reactions: rarely – generalized skin rash, allergic reactions (urticaria, angioedema, bronchospastic reactions), rarely photosensitization, very rare – anaphylactic reactions (including shock).
