Dexpanthenol+Chlorhexidine is a combination drug. Dexpanthenol is a derivative of pantothenic acid. Pantothenic acid is a water-soluble vitamin of group B (vitamin B5) – a component of coenzyme A (Co-A); it stimulates skin regeneration, normalizes cell metabolism, accelerates mitosis, increases the strength of collagen fibers. It has a mild anti-inflammatory effect.

Chlorhexidine is an antimicrobial and antiseptic. Effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including Staphylococcus spp., Enterococcus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E.coli, Streptococcus spp. as well as yeast-like fungi and dermatophytes. Remains active in the presence of blood, pus, various secretions and organic substances.

The drug protects the wound surface from infections, suppresses the course of the infectious process and accelerates healing.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically, dexpanthenol is quickly absorbed by skin and converted to pantothenic acid and binds to plasma proteins (mainly beta-globulin and albumin). Its concentration in blood is 0.5-1 mg/l, in serum 100 µg/l. Pantothenic acid is not metabolized in the body (except for inclusion in Co-A) and is excreted unchanged by the kidneys.

Chlorhexidine when applied externally is practically not absorbed.

Indications

Treatment and treatment of small wounds with a risk of infection, such as abrasions, scrapes, minor cuts and scratches, cracks, minor burns; infected superficial skin lesions; cracked nipples during breastfeeding.

For chronic wounds, for example, trophic leg ulcers, bedsores, as well as for surgical wounds.

Special instructions

Contact with eyes, ears and mucous membranes should be avoided and should not be taken orally (if you mistakenly take large amounts orally, you should immediately consult a doctor).

Large, heavily soiled and deep wounds, as well as bite and puncture wounds require medical intervention (risk of tetanus).

If the size of the wound remains consistently large for some time, or the wound does not heal within 10-14 days, then you should consult a doctor. This is also necessary if the edges of the wound are severely hyperemic, the wound suddenly swells and severe pain appears, or the injury is accompanied by fever (danger of sepsis).

The drug should not be used to treat skin irritations that are not prone to infection (for example, sunburn).

Frequent application to the same area of ​​skin may result in irritation. The drug is intended for the treatment and treatment of small wounds. Application in large quantities should be avoided.

Composition

100 g of cream contains:

Active ingredient: dexpanthenol – 5,000 g;
chlorhexidine digluconate* – 0.776 g.

Excipients: propylene glycol – 4,500 g; lanolin – 3,000 g; liquid paraffin – 14,000 g; Vaseline – 5,000 g; dimethicone – 1,000 g; cetostearyl alcohol – 6,500 g; macrogol stearate – 2,500 g; pantolactone – 0.500 g; water – up to 100.00 g.

*Chlorhexidine bigluconate is used in the form of a 20% solution.

Pregnancy

The drug Dexpanthenol + chlorhexidine can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, its use on large areas of the skin should be avoided.

If the drug is used to treat nipples during lactation, it should be washed off before breastfeeding.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug; should not be applied to a damaged eardrum; in case of severe, deep or heavily contaminated wounds (such injuries require medical intervention).

Side Effects

Allergic reactions such as contact dermatitis, allergic dermatitis, itching, erythema, eczema, rash, urticaria, skin irritation, anaphylactic reaction and anaphylactic shock.

Interaction

As a precaution against possible interaction (antagonism or inactivation), should not be used concomitantly with other antiseptics.

Overdose

Dexpanthenol, even in high doses, is well tolerated and non-toxic. There are no known cases of hypervitaminosis.
In cases of chlorhexidine poisoning, cases of increased aminotransferase activity have been described.
