Pharmacodynamics:
Therapeutic effect of Bifidumbacterin is due to the content of live bifidobacteria in it which have antagonistic activity against a wide range of pathogenic and opportunistic microorganisms and thereby normalize the intestinal microflora improve the function of the gastrointestinal tract prevent the formation of prolonged forms of intestinal diseases.

Indications

Treatment and prevention of dysbacteriosis of various etiologies in children and adults. The drug may be used in children (including premature babies) from the first days of life.

In diseases of the gastrointestinal tract:

– prolonged intestinal dysfunction of unspecified etiology;

– acute intestinal infections (in the complex treatment of acute dysentery salmonellosis escherichiosis viral diarrhea, etc.п.) prolonged intestinal dysfunctions of staphylococcal aetiology as well as treatment of recuperators after acute intestinal infections with persistent intestinal dysfunction;

– in the complex treatment of children (including prematurely born infants) with pneumonia, sepsis and other purulent-infectious diseases for the prevention or relief of intestinal dysfunction and the prevention of ulcerous-necrotic enterocolitis development;

– children with a pre-morbid condition: children born prematurely or with signs of prematurity receiving antibiotics in the early neonatal period; children whose mothers suffered from severe toxemia, extragenital diseases, had a long dry period or other pathology; children of mothers with lactastasis, cracked nipples and who resume breastfeeding after recovery from mastitis; Weakened children with anemia, hypotrophy, rickets, diathesis and other manifestations of allergy; with pertussis, especially if they have any disorders of intestinal function;

In early transition of infants to artificial feeding – Acute and chronic inflammatory diseases of the large and small intestine (colitis enterocolitis) in older children and adults with a background of microflora disorders with a deficiency or absence of Bifidobacterium;

– Intestinal dysfunction as a result of intestinal dysbacteriosis resulting from prolonged antibacterial hormonal radiation and other therapy in stressful situations and staying under extreme conditions and for the prevention of dysbacteriosis;

In order to prevent mastitis for topical treatment of the mammary glands of nursing mothers in “risk” groups (women with inverted flat nipple with reduced erection, cracked nipple) in difficult epidemiological situations in maternity hospitals.

In case of diseases of the female genitalia:

– in violation of the purity of the vaginal secretion to III-IV degree in pregnant women of “risk”

– in bacterial colpitis caused by Staphylococcus and E. coli (in monoflora or in associations) and in senile colpitis of hormonal nature.

Composition

1 dose:

Active ingredient: 1×107 to 5×107 live Bifidobacteria or more than 5×107 live Bifidobacteria;

Excipients: components of the protective drying medium* (gelatin; sucrose (sugar); milk).

How to take, the dosage

Bifidumbacterin in intestinal diseases is used orally and in obstetric and gynecological practice – intravaginally.

The contents of the bottle should be dissolved with boiled water at room temperature at the rate of 5 ml (teaspoonful) of water per 1 dose of the drug.

Dissolve as follows: pour into a beaker the necessary amount of water (in accordance with the number of doses indicated on the bottle); open the bottle by removing the cap and cork; from the beaker transfer a small amount of water into the bottle; after dissolution (the drug dissolves within 5 minutes with the formation of a homogeneous opaque suspension) transfer the contents of the bottle into the same beaker and stir. One teaspoon of the drug dissolved in this way makes 1 dose. The dissolved drug may be stored up to 12 hours at 2 to 25 °С. The required number of doses (teaspoons, respectively) taken 20-30 minutes before a meal. Infants can be given the drug immediately before feeding.

In case of intestinal diseases: to children of the first six months of life the drug is prescribed 5 doses 2 times a day to children of the second half of the year and older – 5 doses 3 times a day.

In newborns of the “risk” group it is reasonable to start using the drug in the maternity ward from the first day of life until discharge in 25 doses per administration twice a day.

In children with sepsis pneumonia and other purulent-infectious diseases 5 doses 3 times a day in combination with usual methods of treatment of the main disease are prescribed. In case of gastrointestinal tract dysfunction and the threat of ulcerous-necrotic enterocolitis in this group of children the dosage of Bifidumbacterin is increased up to 20 doses per day.

In acute chronic inflammatory diseases of the small and large intestine colitis and enterocolitis in adults it is recommended to take 5 doses 2-3 times a day.

In case of intestinal diseases, the duration of treatment with Bifidumbacterin is determined by the severity of the clinical manifestations and the age of the patient and is 2-4 weeks, and in some cases up to 3 months.

Prenatal nipple and areola area treatment: soak two sterile swabs with the dissolved preparation (5 doses) and apply to the mammary gland for 20-30 minutes before feeding. The course of treatment is 5 days.

In intravaginal use a sterile swab soaked in the drug should be inserted into the vagina and left for 2-3 hours.

In inflammatory diseases of the female genitalia and in prenatal preparation of pregnant women of the “risk” group Bifidumbacterin is prescribed in 5-10 doses once a day for 5-8 days with control of restoration of purity of vaginal secretion to grade I-II and disappearance of clinical symptoms of inflammation.

The course of treatment with Bifidumbacterin may be repeated if necessary.

For prophylactic purposes, 5 doses are prescribed 1 to 2 times a day for 1-2 weeks.
