Bactroban, nasal ointment 2% 3 g

Bactroban is a broad-spectrum antibiotic for topical and external use.

It suppresses isoleucine transfer RNA synthetase, which leads to cessation of protein synthesis in the bacterial cell. Due to the specific mechanism of action and the unique chemical structure, mupirocin shows no cross-resistance with other antibiotics (if the drug is used correctly, the risk of resistant strains is low).

Pharmacodynamics

In minimal inhibitory concentrations it has bacteriostatic and in higher concentrations it has bactericidal properties. Spectrum of antibacterial activity in vitro:

• Gram-positive aerobes: Staphylococcus aureus (including strains resistant to methicillin and producing beta-lactamases), Staphylococcus epidermidis and other coagulase-negative Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp. ;
• Graham-negative anaerobes: Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Neisseria meningitidis, Branhamella catarrhalis, Pasteurella multocida, Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris, Enterobacter cloacae, Enterobacter aerogenes, Citrobacter freundii, Bordetella pertussis;
• insensitive: Corynebacterium spp., species of the family Enterobacteriaceae, Gram-negative non-fermenting bacilli, Micrococcus, anaerobes.

Pharmacokinetics

It is characterized by poor permeability through the intact skin. In case of absorption through damaged skin, it is metabolized to microbiologically inactive monic acid and is rapidly excreted by the kidneys.

Indications

Carriage of staphylococci (including strains of Staphylococcus aureus multidrug-resistant and methicillin-resistant).

Special instructions

After applying to the skin, wash your hands thoroughly. Long-term use of Bactroban ointment can lead to excessive growth of insensitive microorganisms.

No adverse effects on the ability to drive or operate machines were observed.

Composition

Active ingredient: mupirocin 2%;

Excipients: paraffin base with the addition of glycerin ether.

Pregnancy

Use with caution due to insufficient data confirming the safety of the drug during these periods.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the ointment.

Side Effects

Very rarely – itching, burning, rawness and dry skin at the site of application;
rarely – skin allergic reactions;
in isolated cases – systemic allergic reactions; rhinitis (when using intranasal ointment).

Storage conditions

At a temperature not exceeding 25 °C. Keep out of the reach of children.

Shelf life
