Ascorbic acid plays an important role in the regulation of redox processes, carbohydrate metabolism, blood coagulation, tissue regeneration, is involved in the synthesis of GCS, collagen and procollagen, normalizes capillary permeability, reduces the need for vitamins B1, B2, A, E, folic acid, pantothenic acid. Has anti-aggregant and pronounced antioxidant properties.
Activates proteolytic enzymes, is involved in the metabolism of aromatic amino acids, pigments and cholesterol, promotes the accumulation of glycogen in the liver. By activating respiratory enzymes in the liver, it enhances its detoxifying and protein-forming functions and increases the synthesis of prothrombin. Improves bile secretion, restores external secretory function of the pancreas and thyroid. It promotes phagocytosis and increases the body’s resistance to infection.

For prophylactic purposes – 500 mg/day, for therapeutic purposes – 1000 mg/day.
Special Instructions
Due to the stimulating effect of ascorbic acid on the synthesis of corticosteroid hormones it is necessary to monitor the adrenal function and BP.
With long-term use of high doses of Askovit inhibition of pancreatic insulatory apparatus may occur, so it should be regularly monitored during treatment.
In patients with elevated iron content in the body ascorbic acid should be used in minimal doses.
Prescribing ascorbic acid to patients with rapidly proliferating and intensely metastatic tumors may worsen the course of the process.
Ascorbic acid as a reducing agent can distort the results of various laboratory tests (blood glucose, bilirubin, hepatic transaminase activity, and LDH).
Contraindications
– Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug Askovit;
– increased blood clotting;
– thrombophlebitis;
– tendency to thrombosis;
– diabetes.
Overdose
Symptoms: with prolonged use of large doses (more than 1 g) – headache, increased CNS excitability, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hyperacidic gastritis, ulceration of the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, Inhibition of pancreatic insular apparatus function (hyperglycemia, glucosuria), hyperoxaluria, nerolithiasis (from calcium oxalate), damage to the glomerular apparatus of the kidneys, moderate pollakiuria (when taking a dose more than 600 mg/day.).
Decrease capillary permeability (deterioration of tissue trophism, increased BP, hypercoagulation, development of microangiopathies is possible).
When administered by injection in high doses, there is a risk of abortion (due to estrogenemia) and erythrocyte hemolysis.
The treatment: symptomatic, forced diuresis.
Pregnancy use
Fetal ACTION CATEGORY. C (Animal reproduction studies have found adverse effects on the fetus, and adequate and rigorously controlled studies in pregnant women have not been conducted, but the potential benefits associated with the use of the drug in pregnant women may justify its use despite the possible risks).
