Notropic, facilitates GABA-mediated transmission of nerve impulses in the central nervous system (direct effect on GABAergic receptors). The tranquilizing effect is combined with an activating effect. It also has antiaggregant, antioxidant and some anticonvulsant effects.

It improves the functional state of the brain by normalizing its metabolism and influence on the cerebral blood flow (increases the volumetric and linear velocity, reduces the vascular resistance, improves microcirculation, has anti-aggregant effect). It prolongs the latent period and shortens the duration and severity of nystagmus.

It does not affect the choline and adrenoreceptors. It reduces vasovagetic symptoms (including headache, feeling of heaviness in the head, sleep disorders, irritability, emotional lability). With a course of treatment it increases physical and mental performance (attention, memory, speed and accuracy of sensory-motor reactions).

Limits manifestations of asthenia (improves well-being, increases interest and initiative (motivation of activity)) without sedation or agitation. Helps to reduce feelings of anxiety, tension and restlessness, and normalizes sleep.

In the elderly, it does not cause depression of the central nervous system, muscular relaxation effects are most often absent.

Pharmacokinetics

The absorption is high and penetrates well into all tissues of the body and through the blood-brain barrier (about 0.1% of the administered dose of the drug penetrates into the brain tissue, and to a greater extent in young and elderly people). It is evenly distributed in the liver and kidneys. Metabolized in liver is 80-95%, metabolites are not pharmacologically active. It does not cumulate. After 3 hours it is excreted by the kidneys, while the concentration in brain tissue is not decreased and is detectable for 6 hours. About 5% is excreted unchanged by kidneys, partially with bile.

Indications

Asthenic and anxious-neurotic conditions.

Stuttering, tics and enuresis in children.

Insomnia and nocturnal anxiety in the elderly.

Menière’s disease, dizziness associated with vestibular analyzer dysfunction of various genesis; prevention of motion sickness in motion sickness.

In complex therapy of alcohol withdrawal syndrome for relieving psychopathological and somatovegetative disorders.

How to take, the dosage

Orally after meals in 2-3 weeks courses. Adults and children from 14 years of age – 250-500 mg 3 times a day (maximum daily dose is 2500 mg). Children from 3 to 8 years old take 50-100 mg 3 times a day; from 8 to 14 years old take 250 mg 3 times a day.

The single maximum dose in adults and children from 14 years is 750 mg, in persons over 60 years – 500 mg, in children under 8 years – 150 mg, from 8 to 14 years – 250 mg.

Alcohol withdrawal syndrome: 250-500 mg 3 times a day and at night 750 mg, with gradual reduction of the daily dose to the usual adult dose.

The treatment of vertigo in vestibular dysfunction and Meniere’s disease: 250 mg 3 times a day for 14 days.

Prevention of motion sickness: 250-500 mg once 1 hour before the supposed onset of motion sickness or when the first symptoms of motion sickness appear. Anti-sickness effect of Anviphene increases with increasing the dose of the drug. At the onset of marked manifestations of seasickness (vomiting, etc.) prescription of Anvifen is ineffective even at doses of 750-1000 mg.

In erosive-ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, liver failure.
