The active substance of the dominator is medetomidine. Medetomidine-a2-agonist whose main effect is inhibition of nerve impulse transmission in adrenergic synapses due to competition with noradrenaline. Under the action of the drug in animals there is CNS depression and increase of pain threshold.
The action of medetomidine depends on the dose: small doses have medium sedative effect without analgesia, while large doses cause significant sedative effect and analgesia. Medetomidine is quickly absorbed after intramuscular injection, the drug concentration in blood reaches a maximum in 15-30 minutes.
Medetomidine is rapidly distributed in the body. From 85% to 90% of the drug is bound to serum proteins. Medetomidine is oxidized in the liver, a small part is methylated in the kidneys. Most of the drug metabolites are excreted with the urine. The elimination half-life is 1-2 hours.
