Zorex is a complexing drug. Donator of sulfhydryl (thiol) groups. It has a detoxifying effect (including in relation to products of ethanol half-life, heavy metals and their compounds, arsenic compounds). Studies have shown hepatoprotective and antioxidant effect of unitiol.
The active sulfhydryl groups of unitiol, interacting with thiol poisons and products of alcohol (ethanol) half-life found in blood and tissues, form non-toxic compounds (complexes) with them which are excreted with urine.
When administered orally, unitiol penetrates the bloodstream into the liver, where it quickly and physiologically irreversibly binds to acetaldehyde, which causes the subsequent elimination of ethanol from other organs and tissues. Zorex also activates alcohol dehydrogenase, increasing the process of ethanol oxidation and detoxification of its toxic agents by the liver enzyme system.
The presence of calcium pantothenate in the preparation Zorex enhances the detoxifying effect of unitiol. Calcium pantothenate is well absorbed from intestine and is broken down to release pantothenic acid which participates in carbohydrate and fat metabolism, stimulates formation of corticosteroids and accelerates regeneration processes.
Pharmacokinetics
Intake
After taking a capsule containing 250 mg of unitiol the Cmax of unitiol in blood is reached after 1.5 hours and is 90-140 mg/l. Average retention time of the preparation in the body is 9-11 hours (10.16±0.39 h), including in GIT – 15-20 min.
Calcium pantothenate is well absorbed from the intestine and is broken down, releasing pantothenic acid.
The T1/2 is 7.5±0.46 h.
About 60% of the drug is excreted in the urine, partially in the feces.

How to take, the dosage
The drug is prescribed orally. Capsules should be taken 30 minutes before a meal, without chewing, with water.
For the prevention of a hangover, 1 capsule (250 mg + 10 mg) in the evening before going to bed.

If necessary, daily dose can be increased to 750 mg (for unitiol), and the frequency of intake should be increased to 3 times a day. The drug should be taken for 3-7 days until the symptoms of intoxication stop.
In chronic alcoholism, 1 capful (150 mg + 7 mg) 1-2 times a day for 10 days (the doses are recalculated to unitiol and calcium pantothenate).
In case of poisoning by arsenic compounds and heavy metal salts 300-1000 mg/day (by unitiol) are prescribed, divided into 2-3 doses for 7-10 days.
Interaction
It is not compatible with medicines containing salts of heavy metals, as well as with alkalis (quickly decomposes).
