ATC code: D01AС14
Pharmacological properties
Sertaconazole is an imidazole derivative for topical use with a broad spectrum of action against pathogenic fungi (Candida albicans, C. Tropicalis, C. spp, Pityrosporum orbiculare), dermatophytes (Trichophyton, Epidermophyton and Microsporum) and pathogens of skin and mucous membrane infections (gram-positive strains of staphylococci and streptococci).
The mechanism of action of sertaconazole is inhibition of ergosterol synthesis, the main sterol of fungal and yeast membranes, and increase of cell membrane permeability, which leads to lysis of the fungus cell.
Pharmacokinetics
Sertaconazole nitrate is undetectable in blood and urine when used topically.
Indications
Local treatment of superficial skin mycoses: ringworm, Tinea pedis (athlete’s foot), Tinea crusis, Tinea corporis, Tinea barbae (beard mycosis), Tinea manus, candidiasis (Monolisiasis), as well as Pityiriasis versicolor (Pityrosporum orbiculare).
