Xymelin, drops 0.1% 10 ml

Vasoconstrictor for local use in ENT practice.

Xylometazoline has alpha-adrenomimetic action. It causes narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating edema and hyperemia of the nasopharyngeal mucosa.

Easily eases nasal breathing in rhinitis.

In therapeutic concentrations it does not irritate the mucosa and does not cause hyperemia. The action occurs within a few minutes after application and lasts for 10-12 hours.

Indications

Acute respiratory diseases with rhinitis (runny nose), acute allergic rhinitis, pollinosis, sinusitis, eustachitis, otitis media (for reduction of nasopharyngeal mucosa edema).

Preparing the patient for diagnostic manipulations in the nasal passages.

xylometazoline hydrochloride 1 mg;

Associates:

dinatrium edetate,

sodium hydrophosphate dihydrate,

sodium dihydrophosphate dihydrate,

Sodium chloride,

Benzalkonium chloride (in the form of 10% benzalkonium solution),

Purified water.

How to take, the dosage

Xymelin is used intranasally, in adults and children over 6 years old – 2-3 drops in each nasal passage 1-3 times a day.

Xymelin is used for not more than 7 days. Do not use in children under 2 years of age without a doctor’s prescription.

Interaction

Incompatible with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.

Special Instructions

Should not be used for long periods of time, such as with chronic rhinitis.

Contraindications

Individual hypersensitivity to the drug components, AH, tachycardia, marked atherosclerosis, glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, thyrotoxicosis, surgical interventions on the brain sheath in the anamnesis, age under 18 years.

Side effects

Local reactions: with frequent and/or prolonged use – irritation and/or dryness of the nasopharyngeal mucosa, burning, tingling, sneezing, hypersecretion; rarely – swelling of the nasal mucosa.

Systemic reactions: rarely – palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmias, increased BP, headache, vomiting, insomnia, visual disturbances; with prolonged use in high doses – depression.

Overdose

Symptoms: worsening of side effects.

Treatment: conducting symptomatic therapy.
