A vasoconstrictor for local use in ENT practice. Xylometazoline has alpha-adrenomimetic action.
Induces narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating edema and hyperemia of the nasopharyngeal mucosa. It relieves nasal breathing in rhinitis.
In therapeutic concentrations it does not irritate the mucous membranes and does not cause hyperemia. The action occurs within a few minutes after application and lasts for 10-12 hours.
Indications
– acute respiratory diseases with rhinitis phenomena;
– acute allergic rhinitis;
– pollinosis;
– sinusitis;
– eustachitis;
– otitis media (to reduce nasopharyngeal mucosal edema);
– preparation of the patient for diagnostic manipulations in the nasal passages.
Active ingredient
Composition
1 ml contains: xylometazoline hydrochloride 500 mcg
Additives:
dinatrium edetate,
sodium hydrophosphate dihydrate,
sodium dihydrophosphate dihydrate,
sodium chloride,
benzalkonium chloride (in the form of 10% benzalkonium solution),
purified water.
How to take, the dosage
Nasal drops 0.05% are indicated in children from 2 to 6 years of age 1-2 drops in each nostril 1-2 times a day.
Nasal drops 0.1% are indicated for adults and children over 6 years of age, 2 to 3 drops in each nostril (repeated dosing may be used if necessary).
The drug should not be used more than 3 times a day and not more than 7 days.
Interaction
Incompatible with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.
Special Instructions
Do not use for prolonged periods, e.g., in chronic rhinitis.
Impact on driving and operating machinery
Closylmetazoline in doses higher than those recommended may affect the ability to operate vehicles or equipment.
Contraindications
– arterial hypertension;
– tachycardia;
– severe atherosclerosis;
– glaucoma;
– atrophic rhinitis;
p> – hyperthyroidism;
– brain surgery (history);
– hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
With caution is used in diabetes mellitus.
Side effects
Local reactions: with frequent and/or prolonged use – irritation and/or dryness of the nasopharyngeal mucosa, burning, tingling, sneezing, hypersecretion; rarely – swelling of the nasal mucosa.
Systemic reactions: rarely – palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmias, increased BP, headache, vomiting, insomnia, visual disturbances; with prolonged use in high doses – depression.
Overdose
Symptoms: worsening of side effects.
Treatment: conducting symptomatic therapy.
