Special instructions

Use with caution in case of labile blood pressure.

Composition

Active ingredient:

xanthinol nicotinate – 150 mg;

water for injections up to 1 ml.

Contraindications

acute bleeding;
hemorrhagic stroke;
acute myocardial infarction;
mitral stenosis;
acute heart failure;
chronic heart failure in the stage of decompensation;
arterial hypotension;
peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum in the acute phase;
acute renal failure;
glaucoma;
pregnancy (especially the first trimester);
breast-feeding;
hypersensitivity to xanthinol nicotinate.

Side Effects

decreased blood pressure;
transient sensation of warmth, redness of the skin, weakness, dizziness;
rarely – nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, gastralgia;
with long-term use – impaired glucose tolerance, increased levels of transaminases and alkaline phosphatase, uric acid in the blood serum;
allergic reactions.

Interaction

When used simultaneously with drugs that have a hypotensive effect (beta-blockers, ergot alkaloids, alpha-blockers, sympatholytics, ganglion blockers), with strophanthin, a sharp increase in their effect is possible.

With the simultaneous use of xanthinol nicotinate with theophylline drugs, an increase in the concentration of theophylline in the blood plasma and an increase in the risk of its toxic effect are observed.

Anticonvulsants (carbamazepine, diphenin), barbituric drugs accelerate the metabolism of xanthinol nicotinate and reduce its plasma concentrations.

Combined oral contraceptives, macrolide antibiotics (clarithromycin, erythromycin), interferon drugs and antifungals (ketoconazole, fluconazole) change the severity of the effect of xanthinol nicotinate, slow down its metabolism and increase the concentration of the drug in plasma.

When xanthinol nicotinate is used in smokers, its plasma concentrations are lower than in non-smoking patients.

Overdose

Symptoms of intoxication occur 4 – 5 hours after administration of xanthinol nicotinate and continue for 12 hours.

Initially, hot flashes, hyperemia of the upper half of the body, nausea, dizziness, tachycardia, decreased blood pressure are possible; later – fever, agitation, loss of consciousness, areflexia, tonic-clonic convulsions, vomiting.

There is no specific antidote. Assistance measures include drug withdrawal, supportive and symptomatic therapy aimed at eliminating existing disorders, respiratory support, blood pressure control and seizure relief.
