Active substances of the prostate extract belong to a group of peptide bioregulators – cytomedines. These drug substances are basic peptides with a molecular weight of 1 to 10 kDa. Low molecular weight peptides of para- or autocrine nature, function as trans-specific intra- and intercellular messengers.

Prostate peptides reduce blood clotting time and increase the antiaggregative activity of the vascular wall, improve blood microcirculation, increase blood fibrinolytic activity, increase the contractile activity of detrusor myocytes in vivo, in vitro.

Immunomodulatory and immunostimulating action, increase the synthesis of antihistamine and antiserotonin antibodies.

Peptide bioregulators are used in chronic prostatitis treatment since they have ability to restore microcirculation, exert indirect anti-inflammatory effect by means of antihistamine and antiserotonin antibodies synthesis as well as immunomodulating and immunostimulating effect.

The treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia is based on the most important biological effect of cytomedines: organotropic effect, which allows to regulate the processes of differentiation and function of cells in the organ from which they were isolated.

Pharmacokinetics:
As a peptide drug, it is cleaved by cellular proteases to amino acids. It has no cumulative effect.

Composition

For one suppository:

Active ingredient: prostate extract, in terms of water-soluble peptides (Samprost substance, Prostate extract) – 10 mg;

Excipient: fatty acid glycerides (Vitepsol W35) – to obtain a suppository weighing 1.0 g.

Contraindications

Individual intolerance (including a history of hypersensitivity).

Side Effects

The peculiarities of the technology for isolating these peptides neutralize their molecular species specificity, as a result of which the resulting drugs are deprived of antigenic properties and associated side effects.

Often – 1-10%; sometimes – 0.1 – 1%; rarely – 0.01-0.1%; very rare – less than 0.01%, including isolated cases.
