Tobradex is a combination drug.
Tobramycin is an antibiotic from the group of aminoglycosides produced by Streptococcus tenebrarius, has a broad spectrum of antibacterial action, active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms: staphylococci (including Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis), including penicillin-resistant strains; Streptococci, including some group A beta-haemolytic species, nonhaemolytic species and some Streptococcus pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter aerogenes, Proteus mirabilis, Morganella morganii, most species of Proteus vulgaris, Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus aegyptius, Moraxella lacunata, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, and some Neisseria species.
Dexamethasone is a GCS. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and desensitizing effects. It has an anti-exudative effect. Dexamethasone actively suppresses inflammatory processes.
The combination of GCS with an antibiotic (tobramycin) reduces the risk of infection.
Pharmacokinetics
When used topically, systemic absorption is low.

How to take, the dosage
Into the conjunctival sac.
Tobradex eye drops: 1-2 drops every 4-6 hours. In the first 24-48 hours, the dose may be increased to 1-2 drops every 2 hours.
Interaction
In case of use with other topical ophthalmic drugs the interval between applications should be at least 5 minutes.
In case of topical administration of tobramycin concomitantly with systemic aminoglycoside antibiotics, the general blood count should be monitored.
Special Instructions
The bottle should be closed after each use.
Do not touch the tip of the dropper to the eye.
The dropper bottle of DropTainer eye drops should be shaken before use and stored upright.
Contraindications
Side effects
Hypersensitivity and allergic reactions (itching, eyelid swelling, conjunctival hyperemia).
Side effects due to the steroid component: increased intraocular pressure; posterior subcapsular cataracts, delayed wound healing.
Secondary infection. The development of secondary infection is observed after the use of combination drugs containing GCS in combination with antibiotics.
Fungal infections on the cornea tend to occur particularly often with long-term steroid use.
The appearance of non-healing ulcers on the cornea after long-term treatment with steroid drugs may indicate the development of a fungal infestation. Secondary bacterial infection may occur as a consequence of suppression of the patient’s defense mechanism.
Overdose
Symptoms: irritation of the mucous membrane of the eye, itching, lacrimation, swollen eyelids, conjunctival hyperemia.
Treatment: flushing eyes with warm water, treatment – symptomatic.
Pregnancy use
There is no sufficient experience on the use of Tobradex during pregnancy, breastfeeding.
It is possible to use for the treatment of pregnant women by prescription of the attending physician if the expected therapeutic effect exceeds the risk of possible side effects.
The use of the drug should be discontinued while breastfeeding.
