It normalizes cell membrane functions, activates energy and metabolic processes, conserves electrolyte composition of cytoplasm due to accumulation of K+ and Ca2+, improves conditions of nerve impulse conducting.
Pharmacokinetics
In topical administration, systemic absorption is low.
Indications
The drug is used in the complex therapy. Corneal dystrophy; cataract (senile, diabetic, traumatic, radiation); corneal trauma (as a stimulator of reparative processes). Primary open-angle glaucoma (in combination with β-adrenoblockers (to improve the outflow of intraocular fluid).

In case of trauma and dystrophic corneal diseases, the same doses are used for 1 month.
In open-angle glaucoma (in combination with butylaminohydroxypropoxyphenoxymethyl methyloxadiazole or timololol maleate) 1 to 2 drops 2 times daily 15-20 minutes before prescribing one of the local hypotensive agents, for 6 weeks followed by withdrawal for 2 weeks.
Interaction
In patients with glaucoma (open-angle) a significant enhancement of the hypotensive effect of β-adrenoblockers (butylaminohydroxypropoxyphenoxymethyl methyloxadiazole or timolol maleate) was noted when used together with taurine.
The effect is enhanced by increasing the ease of outflow coefficient and reducing aqueous moisture production.
