Synthomycin, liniment 10% 25 g

Bacteriostatic broad spectrum antibiotic, left- and right-handed isomer of chloramphenicol. It disrupts protein synthesis in the microbial cell (having high lipophilicity it penetrates through the bacterial cell membrane and reversibly binds to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, where amino acids transfer to the growing peptide chains is delayed, which leads to disruption of protein synthesis).

Active against most strains of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms resistant to penicillin, tetracyclines, sulfonamides. It promotes cleansing and healing of burn wounds and trophic ulcers and accelerates epithelialization.

Pharmacokinetics

The extent of systemic action after use on the skin is unknown.

Active ingredient: chloramphenicol [D,L] – 10.0 g;

excipients: Castor oil – 20.0 g, emulsifier №1 – 5.0 g, sorbic acid – 0.2 g, sodium carmellose – 1.98 g, purified water – up to 100.0 g.

How to take, the dosage

Outwardly. After surgical treatment of wounds and burns the liniment is applied directly to the wound surface, then a sterile gauze bandage is applied or the liniment is applied to the dressing material and then – to the wound. Tampons with liniment are loosely filled into the cavities of purulent wounds after their surgical treatment, and gauze turundas with the drug are inserted into fistulous passages.

The frequency of application is once every 1 to 3 days depending on the dynamics of healing.

Special Instructions

The peripheral blood picture should be systematically monitored during treatment. When applied to large surfaces with simultaneous administration of ethanol, disulfiram-like reactions (skin hyperemia, tachycardia, nausea, vomiting, reflex cough, seizures) may occur.

Hematopoietic organs: reticulocytopenia, leukopenia, granulocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, erythropenia, aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis.
