Sumatrolide Solution Tablets, 500 mg 3 pcs

Antibiotic of macrolide group, is a representative of azalides. It suppresses RNA-dependent protein synthesis of susceptible microorganisms.

Active against Gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus spp. Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes /group A/); Gram-negative bacteria: Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Haemophilus ducreyi, Moraxella catarrhalis, Escherichia coli, Bordetella pertussis, Bordetella parapertussis, Borrelia burgdorferi, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Campylobacter spp, Legionella pneumophila; anaerobic bacteria: Bacteroides fragilis.

Azithromycin is also active against Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Mycoplasma hominis, Treponema pallidum.
Active also against Toxoplasma gondii.

Pharmacokinetics

It is quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Food intake reduces absorption of azithromycin. Cmax in plasma is reached after 2-3 hours. Rapidly distributed in tissues and body fluids. 35% of azithromycin is metabolized in the liver by demethylation. More than 59% is excreted with bile unchanged, about 4.5% – with urine unchanged.

Indications

Infectious-inflammatory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to azithromycin, including bronchitis, pneumonia, skin and soft tissue infections, otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, gonorrheal and non-gonorrheal urethritis and/or cervicitis, Lyme disease (Borreliosis).

Crospovidone,

Pregelatinized starch,

blackcurrant flavoring,

magnesium stearate,

sodium saccharinate,

vanillin,

colloidal silicon dioxide.

How to take, the dosage

It is established individually taking into account nosological form, severity of disease course and causative agent sensitivity.

Adults orally – 0.25-1 g 1 time per day; children – 5-10 mg/kg 1 time per day. The course of treatment is 2-5 days.

Interaction

When concomitant use with ergot alkaloids the risk of ergotism cannot be excluded.

There have been described cases of enhancing the effects of the latter when concomitant use of azithromycin with warfarin.

Simultaneous use of digoxin or digitoxin with azithromycin may result in significant increase in plasma concentration of cardiac glycosides and risk of glycoside intoxication.

In concomitant use with disopyramide a case of ventricular fibrillation was described.

In concomitant use with lovastatin cases of rhabdomyolysis were described.

Simultaneous use with rifabutin increases the risk of neutropenia and leukopenia.

Simultaneous use impairs cyclosporine metabolism, which increases the risk of adverse and toxic reactions caused by cyclosporine.

Special Instructions

It is not recommended to use in patients with liver dysfunction.

With caution use in patients with renal dysfunction.

Azithromycin should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking food or antacids.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to azithromycin and other macrolide antibiotics.

Side effects

Digestive system: nausea, vomiting, flatulence, diarrhea, abdominal pain, transient increase in liver enzymes activity; rarely – cholestatic jaundice.

Allergic reactions: rare – skin rash, angioedema, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis.

Dermatological reactions: rare – photosensitization.

CNS: dizziness, headache, rarely – drowsiness, weakness.

Blood system: rare – leukopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia.

Cardiovascular system: rare – chest pain.

Urinary system: vaginitis, rare – candidiasis, nephritis, increased residual urea nitrogen.

Other: rare – hyperglycemia, arthralgia.
