Streptocid ointment 10% 25 g

Streptocid is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent. Sulfonamide (streptocid) is one of the first representatives of the chemotherapeutic agents of the sulfonamide group.

It has bacteriostatic action. The mechanism of action is due to competitive antagonism with PABA and competitive inhibition of dihydropteroate synthetase enzyme. This leads to disruption of dihydrofolic acid and then tetrahydrofolic acid synthesis and as a result to disruption of nucleic acid synthesis.

Sulfanilamide is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative cocci, Escherichia coli, Shigella spp, Vibrio cholerae, Haemophilus influenzae, Clostridium spp., Bacillus anthracis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Yersinia pestis, and against Chlamydia spp.

How to take, the dosage

In adults, 500 mg-1 g 5-6 times a day; children under 1 year old – 50-100 mg, 2 to 5 years old – 200-300 mg, 6 to 12 years old – 300-500 mg per dose.

The maximum doses for adults when taken orally: single 2 g, daily – 7 g.

When used topically, it is applied to the affected areas of skin and mucous membranes.

Interaction

Myelotoxic drugs increase the hematotoxicity of the drug.

Special Instructions

During treatment it is necessary to increase fluid intake.

In case of hypersensitivity reactions, treatment should be discontinued.

In long-term treatment, systematic monitoring of blood count, kidney and liver function is recommended.

The drug does not affect driving and engaging in other potentially hazardous activities requiring increased concentration and quick psychomotor reactions. In case of dizziness one should refrain from driving vehicles and operating mechanisms.
