Active ingredient
Composition
The active ingredient in Sotalol Canon contains 80 or 160 mg of sotalol.
Form of production:
tablets with a dosage of 80 mg are sold in contour packs of 7 pieces, 2, 4 or 8 packs in a package.
There are also blisters of 10, 20, 28 and 30 tablets, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 blisters in a carton pack.
How to take, the dosage
The tablets are taken orally, before meals, without splitting, without biting, with water.
The dosage and mode of administration is determined by the doctor.
Instructions for Use for Sotalol Tablets
To treat arterial hypertension, 80 mg daily is prescribed. If there is a need, the doctor may recommend increasing the dose by 80 mg per week. A maximum dosage of 320 mg is allowed to be taken once a day.
In ventricular tachyarrhythmia, 160 mg per day is prescribed, divided into 2 doses. If necessary, the dosage can be increased to 320 mg, in 2 doses. The maximum daily dosage in such a case can be 480 mg divided into 2 or 3 doses.
The dosage for patients with kidney or liver disease is determined by the attending physician.
Interaction
Caution should be exercised when combining the drug with Rutherpine, Guanfacine, Prenylamine, Furosemide, Methyldopa, Indapamide, Procainamide, Cisapride, and Erythromycin.
Calcium channel blockers and hypotensive agents, tranquilizers, tricyclic antidepressants, hypnotics, phenothiazines, hypnotics, barbiturates, opioids, diuretics, vasodilators may lead to additional decreases in blood pressure if combined with the drug.
The combination of Sotalol and class I antiarrhythmic agents increases the risk of ventricular arrhythmias.
Peroral hypoglycemic agents and insulin may lead to a decrease in blood sugar levels, worsening hypoglycemia.
The QT interval may be significantly increased when combined with Class III arrhythmia medications.
There have been known cases in which administration of the drug and Clonidine resulted in paradoxical increase in blood pressure.
With caution, Sotalol Canon should be combined with Amiodarone. There is an increased likelihood of developing hypotension, bradycardia, asystole, and ventricular fibrillation.
MAO inhibitors and norepinephrine may increase BP if taken concomitantly with Sotalol.
Special Instructions
You should be aware of the risk of withdrawal syndrome and high blood pressure if you stop the medicine abruptly.
Sotalol has the ability to increase sensitivity to a variety of allergens.
When taking the drug, blood pressure and heart rate should be monitored periodically, and an ECG should be performed. If there is an excessive decrease in blood pressure or a lower heart rate, the dosage needs to be adjusted.
At the time of treatment, it is recommended to refrain from driving.
The drug is used with caution in children and elderly patients.

If the drug was taken for a long time and then abruptly withdrawn, withdrawal syndrome may occur.
Overdose
In case of overdose, bradycardia, dizziness, severe BP decrease, arrhythmia, fainting, seizures, heavy breathing and shortness of breath are observed. Extrasystole, hypoglycemia, and AV block may develop.
Gastric lavage and administration of enterosorbents are recommended as therapy. Intravenous administration of plasma replacement solutions or Atropine, Dopamine, Isoprenaline, Glucagon is indicated.
With regard to the fact that the drug almost does not bind to plasma proteins, hemodialysis is quite effective in combating overdose. A pacemaker may be installed if indicated. If the BP is severely reduced, the patient should be placed upside down in Trendelenburg position.
