Isotonic sodium chloride solution replenishes sodium deficiency in various pathological conditions of the body and temporarily increases the volume of fluid circulating in the blood vessels.

Indications

Isotonic sodium chloride solution is used to dissolve medications, as well as in case of large losses of extracellular fluid or insufficient supply (toxic dispersion, cholera, diarrhea, uncontrollable vomiting, extensive burns with severe exudation, etc.), hypochloremia and hyponatremia with dehydration, intestinal obstruction, intoxication, for washing wounds, eyes, nasal mucosa, for regional perfusion together with fibrinolysin, heparin, antitumor and other drugs.

Contraindications

Isotonic sodium chloride solution should not be administered in case of disturbances in the water-sodium balance associated with hypernatremia, with extracellular hyperhydration, intracellular dehydration, circulatory disorders that threaten cerebral and pulmonary edema, or during treatment with massive doses of corticosteroids.

Large volumes of isotonic sodium chloride solution should be used with caution in patients with impaired renal excretory function.

Side Effects

The administration of large volumes of isotonic sodium chloride solution can lead to chloride acidosis and overhydration, as well as increased potassium losses.
