Smecta is not absorbed. It is eliminated from the body unchanged.
Antidiarrheal drug of natural origin. It has an adsorptive effect.
It stabilizes the mucous barrier, forms polyvalent bonds with glycoproteins of mucus, increases the amount of mucus and improves its gastroprotective properties (against the negative effect of hydrogen ions of hydrochloric acid, bile salts, microorganisms and their toxins).
Smecta has selective sorption properties, which are explained by its discoid-crystalline structure; it adsorbs bacteria and viruses in the GI lumen. Smecta in therapeutic doses does not affect intestinal motility.
