Oxymetazoline belongs to the group of alpha-adrenergic stimulants for local use. It has a vasoconstrictor effect. When administered intranasally it reduces swelling of the mucous membrane of the upper airways and nasal secretions.
Restores nasal breathing. Elimination of nasal mucous membrane edema helps restore aeration of paranasal sinuses, middle ear cavity which reduces the probability of bacterial complications (maxillary sinusitis, sinusitis, otitis media).
In local intranasal application in therapeutic concentrations it does not irritate and does not cause nasal mucous membrane hyperemia. The drug starts to work quickly, within a few minutes. The duration of action of the drug is up to 12 hours.
Pharmacokinetics< br>
In local intranasal administration, oxymetazoline has no systemic action. The half-life of oxymetazoline when administered intranasally is 35 hours. 2.1% of oxymetazoline is excreted with urine and about 1.1% with feces.

Long-term use and overdose of oxymetazoline may weaken the therapeutic effect and increase the risk of reactive hyperemia (medicated rhinitis) and atrophy of the nasal mucosa.
After long-term use of rhinitis remedies containing oxymetazoline in doses higher than recommended, the overall effect on the cardiovascular system and the central nervous system cannot be excluded. In these cases, caution is recommended when driving vehicles and engaging in other potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and rapid psychomotor reactions.
Contraindications
