Pharmacodynamics

A drug that improves cerebral and peripheral blood flow, with alpha-adrenoblocking as well as metabolism-activating effects.

Limits vascular resistance, increases arterial blood flow and oxygen and glucose consumption by brain tissue. Lowers pulmonary vascular resistance. Reduces platelet aggregation and improves hemorheological indicators.

Enhances blood flow velocity in the blood vessels of the upper and lower extremities, especially in blood flow disorders caused by functional arteriopathy. Clinical trials have shown high effectiveness of Sermion in disorders of cerebral circulation and insufficiency of arterial blood flow in the vessels of the upper and lower extremities.

The administration of Sermion in therapeutic doses generally has no effect on BP. In patients with arterial hypertension, the drug may cause a gradual decrease in BP.

There have been no studies of the pharmacokinetics of Sermion.

How to take, the dosage

In the oral route, the drug is prescribed 5-10 mg 3 times a day at regular intervals over a long period of time. To improve absorption the drug should be taken between meals.

In some cases it is suitable to start the therapy with parenteral administration (Sermion por.lyoph.d/in. 4 mg fl. 4 ml [with solution] unit 4 Pfizer) and then switch to oral administration during supportive therapy.

Interaction

In concomitant use of Sermion may potentiate the effect of hypotensive drugs.

Special Instructions

Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and other mechanisms requiring high concentration

Cermion improves concentration.

The effect of the drug on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery has never been studied.

Perhaps with regard to the disease for which the drug is prescribed, however, caution is recommended when driving or operating machinery.

Contraindications

Side effects

Cardiovascular system disorders: rare – sensation of fever and flushes to the face.

CNS disorders: rarely – somnolence, insomnia.

Digestive system disorders: rare – mild gastric disorders.

Overdose

No cases of overdose have been described at this time.

Pregnancy use

In pregnancy, the drug is prescribed only under strict indications.

In experimental studies no teratogenic effect of nicergoline was found.
