Senna, chopped leaves 50 g

The decoction of senna leaves has a laxative effect.

The action of the drug is due to chemical irritation of the intestinal mucosal receptors by anthraquinone derivatives and reflexive enhancement of its peristalsis.

Therapeutic effect shall develop 8-12 hours after taking the drug.

Indications

– Chronic constipation (hypo-, atony of the large intestine),

– regulation of stool in hemorrhoids and proctitis (out of exacerbation), anal fissures.

Active ingredient

Composition

Senna leaves.

The leaves contain anthraglycosides,

flavonoids,

resinous substances and other biologically active substances.

How to take, the dosage

About 10 g (2 tablespoons) of leaves are placed in an enamel bowl, pour 200 ml (1 cup) of hot boiled water, cover and heat in a boiling water bath for 30 minutes, then keep at room temperature until completely cooled, strain, squeeze the remaining raw material.

The volume of the resulting broth is adjusted with boiled water to 200 ml.

Take orally 1/2 cup in the evening after a meal. The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks.

We recommend to shake the decoction before use.

Interaction

Senna preparations reduce absorption of tetracycline.

Special Instructions

Long use of senna may lead to addiction, so it is advisable to alternate with other laxatives.

The drug does not affect the ability to perform potentially dangerous activities requiring increased concentration and quick psychomotor reactions (including driving vehicles and operating moving machinery).

Contraindications

– Hypersensitivity to the drug,

– intestinal obstruction,

– abdominal pain of unclear genesis,

– Acute inflammatory disease of the abdominal cavity,

Proctitis and acute haemorrhoids in aggravation,

– strangulated hernia,

– gastrointestinal bleeding,

– uterine bleeding,

– cystitis,

– spastic colitis,

– spastic constipation,

– pregnancy,

– breastfeeding period,

– children under 12 years of age.

Side effects

Allergic reactions, abdominal pain, flatulence, diarrhea are possible.

Long-term use may cause colitis.

Overdose

Symptoms:diarrhea, disorders of water-electrolyte metabolism.

Treatment:symptomatic.
