Xylometazoline belongs to the group of local vasoconstrictors (decongestants) with alpha-adrenomimetic action, causes narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal cavity mucosa, eliminating edema and hyperemia. It relieves nasal breathing in rhinitis. The action of the drug starts within a few minutes after application and lasts for 12 hours.

The supporting ingredient seawater helps maintain the normal physiological state of the nasal mucosa which reduces symptoms of irritation and dryness caused by prolonged use of xylometazoline.

Indications

Acute respiratory diseases (ARI) with symptoms of rhinitis (runny nose);
Acute allergic rhinitis;
Sinusitis;
Hay fever;
Otitis media (to reduce swelling of the nasopharyngeal mucosa);
Preparing the patient for diagnostic manipulations in the nasal passages.

Pharmacological effect

Special instructions

Before use, it is necessary to clean the nasal passages.

Recommended doses should not be exceeded, especially in children and the elderly.

Do not use for more than 7 days, unless your doctor recommends a different duration of treatment. If symptoms persist after this time, you should consult a doctor.

Excipients:

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, arterial hypertension, tachycardia, severe atherosclerosis, glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, condition after transsphenoidal hypophysectomy, inflammatory diseases of the skin or mucous membrane of the nasal vestibule, thyrotoxicosis, pregnancy, surgical interventions on the meninges (history), children’s age (up to 2 years – for nasal drops 0.05%; up to 6 years – for drops nasal 0.1%).

Do not use during therapy with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and tricyclic and tetracyclic antidepressants, other local vasoconstrictors (decongestants), as well as with other drugs that increase blood pressure.

Side effects: With frequent and/or prolonged use – irritation and/or dryness of the nasopharynx mucosa, burning, tingling, sneezing, hypersecretion.

Rarely – swelling of the nasal mucosa, palpitations, tachycardia, arrhythmias, increased blood pressure, headache, vomiting, insomnia, blurred vision; depression (with long-term use of high doses).

With caution:

With increased sensitivity to adrenergic drugs, accompanied by insomnia, dizziness, arrhythmia, tremor, increased blood pressure, porphyria, hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma, coronary heart disease (angina), prostatic hyperplasia, diabetes mellitus, breastfeeding period.

Side Effects

With frequent and/or prolonged use – irritation and/or dryness of the nasopharynx mucosa, burning, tingling, sneezing, hypersecretion.

Overdose

Symptoms: increased side effects.

Treatment: symptomatic.
