Pharmacotherapeutic group: Homeopathic remedy
Pharmacological action
Streel is a herbaceous plant with large solitary red or purple flowers.
The pharmacological activity is due primarily to a glucoside called ranunculoside which produces glucose and protoanemonin, which is unstable and rapidly converts to anemonin by enzymatic hydrolysis.
Prestrel is known for its antispasmodic action, which is mainly seen in spastic coughs, gastrointestinal spasms and uterine pain.
The protoanemonin, as well as the juice of the fresh plant, has antibacterial and skin-irritating effects.
