The drug modifies the functional activity of S-100 protein that conjugates informational and metabolic processes in the brain. It sensitizes neuronal membrane and modulates synaptic plasticity of neurons. Has a modifying effect on the functional state of brain structures involved in the formation of alcohol dependence: hypothalamus, hippocampus, etc.

In case of alcohol dependence has a normalizing effect on the system of positive emotional reinforcement, which leads to a decrease in the frequency of self-stimulation of the lateral hypothalamus. Reduces patches activity of hippocampal neurons; decreases the number of circulating immunocomplexes in peripheral blood, which correlates with decreased ethanol consumption. It promotes strengthening of the inhibitory effects of GABA in the CNS.

It is experimentally established that the drug restores the neurotransmitter balance and conditioned reflex activity. Increases resistance of the brain to hypoxia and toxic effects.

It is used for alcohol dependence to reduce the craving for alcohol and reduce the likelihood of relapse into alcoholism.

Pharmacokinetics

The sensitivity of modern physicochemical methods of analysis (gas-liquid chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry) does not allow assessing the content of the active substance of the drug Proproten®-100 in biological fluids, organs and tissues, which makes it technically impossible to study pharmacokinetics.

Special instructions

The drug contains lactose monohydrate, and therefore is not recommended for use in patients with congenital galactosemia, glucose malabsorption syndrome, or congenital lactase deficiency.

Pregnancy

The drug Proproten®-100 is contraindicated for use in women during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Contraindications

Increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug; pregnancy and breastfeeding; age under 18 years; lactase deficiency, hereditary galactose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption.
