Biological properties
Antidiarrheal action of the preparation is conditioned by high concentration of bifidobacteria (Bifidobacterium bifidum № 1) sorbed on activated charcoal particles which are antagonists of a wide range of pathogenic (Shigella, Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus etc.) and conditionally pathogenic (Bifidobacterium bifidum № 1) bacteria.
The anti-infective action of the preparation is intensified by bifidobacteria sorption on charcoal particles which leads to accelerated normalization of gastro-intestinal microbiocenosis, activation of regenerative processes in mucous membranes and increases of the body resistance to infection.
Antitoxic action of the preparation is achieved by rapid repopulation of the intestines with bifidobacteria microcolony, restoration of normal microflora, which prevents the penetration of toxins into the internal environment of the body and accumulates a significant amount of toxic substances coming from the outside or formed in the body as a natural biosorbent.
Bifidobacteria at high concentrations activate parietal digestion, synthesis of vitamins and amino acids, enhance the protective function of the intestine and the body’s immune defense.

Indications

The preparation is used in combination therapy
– chronic infectious and non-specific inflammatory diseases of the digestive tract (gastroduodenitis, pancreatitis, proctosigmoiditis, colitis, including ulcerative colitis).
– Patients (including newborns) with secondary immunodeficiency states, with severe infectious-inflammatory and purulent-septic diseases (sepsis, peritonitis, etc.), skin diseases (e.g., in case of ulcerative colitis), and other diseases.Secondary immunodeficiency conditions with severe infectious and inflammatory and hence septic diseases (sepsis, peritonitis etc.), with skin diseases (atopic dermatitis, streptoderma, eczema);
-irritable bowel syndrome, other functional intestinal disorders;
– syndrome of impaired intestinal absorption of various etiologies;
-acute respiratory-viral infections and influenza;
-surgical patients (including traumatological profile).
– surgical patients (including trauma) for preoperative preparation and prevention of postoperative complications; in postgastroresection disorders and conditions after cholecystectomy;
– cancer patients during chemotherapy, radiation therapy, before and after surgery.

Active ingredient

Composition

One packet contains:
active substance: bifidobacteria sorbed on activated carbon – at least 500 million colony-forming units (5×108 CFU),
excipient: lactose monohydrate – up to 0.85 g.

How to take, the dosage

In acute intestinal infections, food toxic infections, diarrhea:
– children under 6 months, 1 package 2 times a day; children over 6 months, 1 package 3-4 times a day (possibly with a short interval of 2-3 hours), a course of 2-3 days; if clinical symptoms persist, the course of treatment is extended to 4-5 days;
– children over 7 years and adults, 2-3 packages 2 times a day, a course of 3-5 days;
– adults to stop diarrhea in the early stages of the disease – 3 sachets 2 times a day with an interval of 30 minutes to 1 hour; the drug can be increased to 6 sachets at a time once a day, the course of treatment is from 1 to 3 days.

In chronic pathology of the gastrointestinal tract and functional intestinal disorders – children and adults once 3 packages at evening meals, adults can take 2 packages 2 times a day. The course of treatment 5-15 days. With a severe course of the disease the drug content may be increased in children and adults from 1 year to 6 packets per day, and the course of treatment to 30 days.
Dysbacteriosis of various etiologies, chronic intestinal infections, in patients with immunodeficiency disorders, with skin diseases, as well as to improve the period of adaptation in newborn children:
– to premature infants – 1 package 1-2 times a day;
– to premature infants and children under 3 years old – 1 package 2 times a day;
– to children from 3 to 7 years old – 1 package 3 times a day;
– to children over 7 years old and adults – 2-3 packages – 2 times a day. The course of treatment is 7-10 days.
The complex treatment of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza is used in patients of all age groups from 1-2 days of the disease in one bag three times a day. The course of treatment is 2 days.
Surgical patients and pregnant women in preparation for cesarean section in order to reduce postoperative complications:
– before surgery by 1 package 3 times a day for 2-3 days; persons suffering from intestinal dysbacteriosis, who received antibiotics and chemopreparations, the preoperative course is extended to 7 days;
– from 2-7 days after surgery by 1 package 3 times a day for 2-3 days, for indications – 7-10 days.

Probifor® is taken with meals, if necessary, regardless of meals. Before using the drug is mixed with liquid food, preferably fermented dairy products, to newborns and children of infant age – with mother’s milk or formula for artificial feeding. The drug can be mixed with 30-50 ml of boiled water at room temperature, which creates a turbid suspension with black sorbent particles. The resulting aqueous suspension should be drank without achieving complete dissolution.
