Polinadim Eye Drops is a combined drug used topically.
One of the components, diphenhydramine (dimedrol), has a pronounced antiallergic effect, blocks histamine H1-receptors, reducing itching, swelling, lacrimation.
The second active ingredient, naphazolin (known as naphthisin), permanently narrows peripheral blood vessels and reduces inflammation and swelling when used topically.

Composition
The eye drops are in the form of a clear, slightly colored liquid.
Associates:
boric acid (15 mg/mL),
water-soluble methylcellulose (1.5 mg/ml),
sodium tetraborate decahydrate (500 µg/ml),
dinatrate (600 µg/ml),
water d/i (up to 1 ml).
How to take, the dosage
In the acute period in adults, 1 drop every 3 hours is put into the conjunctival sac until irritation and ocular edema decrease. Continue 1 drop 2-3 times a day – until clinical symptoms disappear.
In children over 2 years of age 1 to 2 drops daily.
Polinadim is not recommended for use longer than 5 days without a doctor’s recommendation.
If symptoms of conjunctival irritation persist within 72 hours, use of Polinadim eye drops should be stopped and an ophthalmologist should be consulted.
Interaction
Concomitant use with tricyclic antidepressants may increase the vasoconstrictor effect of naphazoline.
The use of MAO inhibitors concomitantly with naphazolin or within 10 days after their withdrawal may lead to a hypertensive crisis.
Special Instructions
Do not use the drug more often than every 3 hours (for 5 days).
The drug is not intended to be taken orally or injected.
In case of symptoms suggestive of systemic absorption, the drug should be discontinued.
In case of allergy symptoms and during treatment with the drug, the use of soft contact lenses is not recommended. If their use is necessary, the lenses should be removed before instillation and put back in no earlier than 15 minutes.
Impact on driving and operating machinery
Because visual acuity is temporarily impaired after instillation, patients should refrain from driving vehicles and activities requiring visual acuity immediately after using the drug.

Side effects
Local reactions may develop – conjunctival irritation, burning, redness, itching in the eye area, visual acuity disorders, increased intraocular pressure, dilated pupil, pain in the eye area, dry nasal mucosa. After withdrawal of the drug, the reactions go away.
There was one case of corneal clouding (Polynadim eye drops were put into drops at least 10 times a day for one week), the symptoms also disappeared after discontinuation of the drops.
In rare cases (mostly in children and elderly patients) increased heart rate, pale skin, heart pain, increased blood pressure, increased sweating, headache, shivering, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea may develop.
Overdose
In local administration of the drug an overdose is unlikely.
Symptoms: in children under 6 years of age with prolonged and frequent use, CNS depression, hypothermia, prolonged mydriasis, increased BP, tachycardia are possible.
Treatment: conducting symptomatic therapy.
Pregnancy use
The use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding) is possible only when the expected benefits to the mother exceed the possible risk to the fetus or child.
Pediatric use
Contraindication: children under 2 years of age.
