Pyroxicam is an analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory.

Selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase, disrupts the metabolism of arachidonic acid, reduces the formation of GH.

Allows or eliminates pain of moderate intensity, reduces the severity of inflammation, in joint syndrome reduces morning joint stiffness, helps to increase range of motion. Full therapeutic effect is seen after 10-14 days of application.

Indications

Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, spondylitis, acute gout attack, inflammatory musculoskeletal diseases.

How to take, the dosage

Overly, 20 to 40 mg daily in 1 to 2 doses.

Interaction

It enhances the effect of oral anticoagulants, increases the concentration of lithium salts in the blood.

Alcohol increases the likelihood of side effects.

Blood levels are reduced by salicylic acid derivatives.

Special Instructions

Patients with gastrointestinal disorders, after major surgery, the elderly, patients with bronchial asthma and chronic bronchospastic diseases in the history should monitor the blood cell composition, renal and liver function.

In women, the contraceptive effect of VIC may decrease due to the effect of piroxicam on myometrial tone. There are currently no recommendations for use in children. During the treatment it is necessary to avoid the use of ethanol.

Do not apply to damaged skin. Avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes.

When treating, you should use caution while driving motor vehicles and engaging in other potentially dangerous activities that require increased concentration and quick psychomotor reactions.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity, including to NSAIDs, peptic ulcer disease, bleeding disorders, liver and kidney disease, cardiovascular failure, bronchial asthma, pregnancy, breast-feeding (breast-feeding should be stopped).

Side effects

Erotic ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, edema, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, allergic skin reactions.

Overdose

Symptoms: nausea, vomiting (at high doses – bloody), melena, meniere-like phenomena, tinnitus, clonic and tonic convulsions, coma, hemorrhagic diathesis, agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia, petechial or bullous rash, urticaria, core- or typhoid rash; in predisposed patients – toxic-allergic shock.

Treatment: carried out according to generally accepted principles of clinical toxicology.

Pregnancy use

Pyroxicam is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.
