Pensital compensates insufficiency of external pancreatic secretory function, has proteolytic, amylolytic and lipolytic action.

Pancreatin enzymes (lipase, alpha-amylase, trypsin, chymotrypsin) contribute to the breakdown of proteins into amino acids, fat into glycerol and fatty acids, starch into dextrins and monosaccharides. It improves the functional state of the gastrointestinal tract and normalizes digestion.

Trypsin inhibits stimulated pancreatic secretion with analgesic effect.

Pancreatic enzymes are released from the dosage form in the alkaline environment of the small intestine because they are protected from the action of gastric juice by the coating.

The maximum enzymatic activity is observed 30-45 min after oral administration.

How to take, the dosage

Ingestion. Penzital is taken during or after a meal, without chewing and with non-alkaline liquid (water, fruit juices).
The dose is determined individually, depending on the degree of digestive disorders. Adults usually take 1-2 tablets 3 times a day.

In children the drug is used by prescription. The duration of treatment may vary from a few days (in case of digestive disorders due to errors in the diet) to several months or years (if permanent replacement therapy is necessary).

Interaction

Concomitant use of pancreatin with iron preparations may reduce absorption of the latter. Concomitant use of antacids containing calcium carbonate and/or magnesium hydroxide may reduce the effectiveness of pancreatin.

Special Instructions

The safety of pancreatin use in pregnancy has not been adequately studied. Use is possible in cases when the expected benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus. In cystic fibrosis it is not recommended to use pancreatin in high doses due to increased risk of strictures (fibrous colonopathy) The dose should be adequate to the amount of enzymes that are necessary for fat absorption, taking into account the quality and quantity of food consumed. In case of prolonged use, iron preparations are prescribed at the same time.
