Pharmacodynamics

The spectrum of action is due to the presence of GABA in the structure. The mechanism of action is due to the direct effect of the drug Pantocalcin^® on GABA_B-receptor-channel complex. It has neurometabolic, neuroprotective and neurotrophic properties.

Enhances resistance of the brain to hypoxia and the effects of toxic substances, stimulates anabolic processes in neurons. It has anticonvulsant effect, reduces motor excitability with simultaneous ordering of behavior. Improves mental and physical performance.

It promotes normalization of GABA in chronic alcohol intoxication and subsequent withdrawal of ethanol.

It shows analgesic effect.

It is able to inhibit acetylation reactions participating in the inactivation mechanisms of novocaine and sulfonamides due to which the prolongation of their action is achieved. It causes inhibition of pathologically increased bladder reflex and detrusor tone.

Pharmacokinetics

In oral administration, it is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. T_max in blood plasma is 1 h. The highest concentrations are formed in the liver, kidneys, gastric wall, skin. It penetrates through the BBB. It is not metabolized and excreted unchanged in 48 hours (67.5% of the taken dose – in the urine, 28.5% – in the faeces).

hopanthenic acid – 250.00 mg or 500.00 mg;
excipients:
magnesium hydroxycarbonate, calcium stearate, talc, potato starch.

How to take, the dosage

Ingestion.

Take 15-30 minutes after a meal.

A single dose for adults is 0.5-1 g, for children – 0.25-0.5 g, daily dose – 1.5-3 g (for adults), 0.75-3 g (for children). Duration of treatment course – from 1 to 4 months, in some cases – up to 6 months. After 3 to 6 months it is possible to carry out the second course of treatment.

Children. Mental retardation – 0.5 g 4-6 times a day, every day for 3 months. Delayed speech development – 0.5 g 3-4 times a day for 2-3 months.

The neuroleptic syndrome (as a corrector of the side effects of neuroleptic drugs). Adults – 0.5-1 g 3 times a day; children – 0.25-0.5 g 3-4 times a day. Duration of treatment course is 1-3 months.

Epilepsy. Children – 0.25-0.5 g 3-4 times a day; adults – 0.5-1 g 3-4 times a day for a long time (up to 6 months).

Hyperkinesias (tics). Children – 0.25-0.5 g 3-6 times daily for 1-4 months; adults – 1.5-3 g daily for 1-5 months.

Disorders of urination. Adults – 0.5-1 g 2-3 times a day (daily dose – 2-3 g); children – 0.25-0.5 g (daily dose – 25-50 mg/kg). Duration of treatment course – from 2 weeks to 3 months (depends on the severity of the disorders and the therapeutic effect).

The consequences of neuroinfections and craniocerebral injuries. 0,25 g 3-4 times a day.

To restore performance under increased stress and asthenic conditions.0.25 g 3 times a day.

This dosage form is not recommended for children under 3 years of age.

Interaction

Prolongs the effect of barbiturates; enhances the effects of drugs stimulating the CNS, anticonvulsants, the effect of local anesthetics (procaine).

Prevent side effects of the following drugs: phenobarbital, carbamazepine, antipsychotics (neuroleptics).

The action of gopanthenic acid is enhanced in combination with glycine, xydiphone.
