Pharmaceutical action:
Digestive enzyme remedy, replenishes pancreatic enzymes deficiency, has proteolytic, amylolytic and lipolytic action. Pancreatic enzymes (lipase, alpha-amylase, trypsin, chymotrypsin) help in breakdown of proteins into amino acids, fats into glycerol and fatty acids, starch into dextrins and monosaccharides; it improves functional state of gastrointestinal tract and normalizes digestive processes.
Trypsin suppresses stimulated pancreatic secretion with analgesic effect.
Pancreatic enzymes are released from the dosage form in the alkaline environment of the small intestine, as they are protected from the action of gastric juice by a coating.
The maximum enzymatic activity of the drug is observed 30-45 min after oral administration.
Indications
Pancreatic external secretory function deficiencies (chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, etc.).
Chronic inflammatory-dystrophic diseases of the stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder; conditions after resection or irradiation of these organs, accompanied by disorders of digestion, flatulence, diarrhea (in combination therapy.
To improve digestion in patients with normal gastrointestinal function in cases of eating disorders.
Preparing for radiological and ultrasonic examination of the abdominal cavity.
Active ingredient
Composition
1 tablet contains pancreatin – 0.125 g.
Auxiliary substances:
lactose (milk sugar),
methylcellulose MC-16,
calcium stearate,
celacephate,
acid red 2C,
titanium dioxide,
polysorbate 80 .
How to take, the dosage
Ingestion. The drug is taken during or after a meal, without chewing and with non-alkaline liquid (water, fruit juices).
The dose is determined individually depending on the degree of digestive disorders. Usually 2-4 tablets 3-6 times a day for adults.
Maximal daily dose is 16 tablets.
The drug is used for children over 6 years old by prescription. The dose is determined individually. Usually it is prescribed 3 times a day.
The duration of treatment may vary from several days (in case of digestive disorders due to errors in the diet) up to several months or years (if necessary constant replacement therapy).
Interaction
Concomitant use with antacids containing calcium carbonate and/or magnesium hydroxide may decrease the effectiveness of pancreatin.
Concomitant use may theoretically reduce the clinical efficacy of acarbose.
Concomitant use of iron preparations may decrease the absorption of iron.
Contraindications
Side effects
Digestive system disorders: in some cases – diarrhea, constipation, feeling of discomfort in the stomach, nausea. The cause-and-effect relation of the development of these reactions with the action of pancreatin has not been established, because these phenomena are related to the symptoms of external pancreatic insufficiency.
Allergic reactions: in some cases – skin manifestations.
Metabolism disorders: in prolonged use in high doses hyperuricosuria is possible; in excessive doses – increase in plasma uric acid level.
Others: perianal irritation may occur with high doses of pancreatin in children.
