Panavir® is a purified extract of the shoots of the plant Solanum tuberosum; the main active ingredient is a hexose glycoside consisting of glucose, rhamnose, arabinose, mannose, xylose, galactose, and uronic acids.
The drug Panavir® has a virus-static effect. It is active against herpes simplex viruses Herpes simplex types I and II. It suppresses viral replication and polymerase reactions by blocking the synthesis of viral DNA in the affected cells of the skin and/or mucous membranes.
Tests have shown the absence of mutagenic, teratogenic, carcinogenic, allergizing and embryotoxic effects. In preclinical studies on laboratory animals no adverse effects on reproductive function and fetal development were found.
