Hormonal agent, polypeptide analogue of the hormone of the posterior pituitary lobe. It has uterotonizing, labor-stimulating and lactotropic effects.
Indications
To induce and stimulate labor activity (primary and secondary weakness of labor activity, the need for early delivery in connection with gestosis, Rh conflict, fetal death; carried pregnancy, premature discharge of amniotic fluid, delivery in the breech).

How to take, the dosage
Intravenous (slow and drip), intramuscularly, subcutaneously, into the wall or vaginal part of the cervix, intranasally (using a pipette). The single dose for I/m injection usually ranges from 2 to 10 IU (0.4 to 2 ml) depending on the clinical situation; for IV administration (slow trickle or drip), the single dose is usually 5 to 10 IU (1 to 2 ml).
Interaction
Oxytocin increases the pressor effect of sympathomimetic amines.

Hypersensitivity;
Side effects
Bradycardia (in mother and fetus), decreased blood pressure, shock or increased blood pressure and subarachnoid hemorrhage, heart rhythm disorders (including in fetus);
Overdose
Symptoms: fetal compression, fetal asphyxia, fetal bradycardia, postpartum bleeding, uterine tetanus, uterine rupture, uteroplacental hypoperfusion, hypoxia, hypercapnia, fetal death, fetal birth injuries, water intoxication, seizures.
