Directions for use
Influenza
In an influenza epidemic, nasal mucosa and the back of the pharynx are irradiated through the tubes for prophylactic purposes. Each nasal passage is irradiated for 30 seconds using a 5-mm diameter tube and the tube is inserted 1 cm deep. The back of the pharynx is irradiated alternately on the left and right side, each side for 30 seconds through a tube with the exit opening at 60°, the tube is inserted to a depth of 5 cm. A course of 5-6 treatments.
At the height of the disease, no irradiation is done. In the period of disease reversal (or in the period of recovery) in order to prevent development of complications (accession of secondary infection) UVI of nasal and pharyngeal mucosa shall be performed according to the same method carried out for prophylactic purposes.
In the first days of the disease the nasal and pharyngeal mucosa are treated according to the scheme of flu treatment, as well as the thorax rear (interlobar) surface and front (chest area, trachea) through a perforated localizer. To make a perforated localizer, it is necessary to take a 40×40 cm medical oilcloth and perforate it with 1.0-1.5 cm holes. Dose of radiation from a distance of 50 cm from 3-4 to 5-6 biodoses. The next day the localizer is moved and new skin areas are irradiated with the same dose. A total of 5-6 treatments are prescribed for the course of treatment.
In the stage of attenuation of exudative phenomena in the nasal mucosa (end of rhinorrhea) in order to prevent the accession of secondary infection and development of complications in the form of maxillary sinusitis, otitis media etc. UVB of the nasal mucosa and pharynx is prescribed. Each nasal passage is irradiated for 30 seconds with a 5-mm diameter tube, the tube is inserted to a depth of 1 cm. The back of the pharynx is irradiated left and right side alternately for 30 seconds each with a 60° tube, the tube is inserted 5 cm deep. The course of 5-6 treatments.
Acute inflammation of paranasal sinuses (frontitis, maxillary sinusitis)
After diagnostic and therapeutic punctures and sinus lavage, UVI of the mucous membrane of nasal passages according to the procedure of acute rhinitis is prescribed. In addition, it is recommended to perform irradiation of the facial skin in the area of the lesion with special glasses for eye protection. The irradiation dose shall be 0.5 to 3 biodoses, the distance to the device shall be 0.5 m. The course of treatment shall be 5-6 procedures.
The disease develops as a complication of an acute respiratory disease, acute rhinitis. An application is made for an ultraviolet radiation of the mucous membranes in the posterior pharynx, nasal passages. Each nasal passage is irradiated for 30 seconds by means of a tube with a diameter of 5 mm, the tube is inserted to a depth of 1 cm. The back wall of the pharynx is irradiated alternately on the left and right side, each side for 30 seconds through a tube with an outlet opening at an angle of 60°, the tube is inserted to a depth of 5 cm. A course of 5-6 treatments.
At the same time, the external auditory canal is irradiated through a 5 mm or 15 mm tube, the tube is inserted to a depth of 1 cm. The radiation dose is 2 to 3 to 4 biodoses. The course of treatment is 2-5 sessions.
Acute pharyngitis, laryngitis, tracheitis
Perform ultraviolet radiation of the anterior surface of the chest in the area of the front surface of the neck and the upper half of the sternum, the posterior surface of the neck. The dose of irradiation from a distance of 50 cm is from 3-4 to 5-6 biodoses. Simultaneously irradiate the posterior wall of the pharynx alternately on the left and right side, each side for 30 seconds through a tube with an outlet opening at an angle of 60 cm, the tube is inserted at a depth of 5 cm. A course of 5-6 treatments.
Acute bronchitis
UFO is prescribed from the first day of the disease. The anterior surface of the thorax in the area of anterior surface of the neck and the upper half of the sternum and interscapular region are irradiated through the perforated localizer which is daily displaced to the non-irradiated skin areas. Duration of irradiation from a distance of 50 cm is from 3 to 5 biodoses. The course of irradiation is 5-6 procedures.
Bronchial asthma
The UVA is carried out according to two methods. The first one complies with the method of treatment in acute bronchitis. According to the second method, the chest is divided into 8 areas: the first, second, third, fourth – the rear surface of the chest is irradiated; the fifth, sixth – the side surfaces of the chest; the seventh, eighth – the front surface of the chest on the right. One area is irradiated daily. The dose from a distance of 50 cm is from 3 to 5 biodoses during one session. Each field is irradiated 2-3 times.
Chronic tonsillitis
The UVA of the palatine tonsils is carried out by means of a tube with an outlet at an angle of 60⁰. The efficacy of the treatment depends on the correct technique of the UV therapy procedure. The treatment is performed with the mouth wide open and the tongue pressed to the bottom of the mouth, the palatine tonsils should be clearly visible. The tube of the irradiator with the slice towards the tonsils is inserted in the oral cavity at a distance of 2-3 cm from the surface of the teeth. The beam of UV radiation is strictly directed to the irradiated tonsil. The patient can perform irradiation independently, controlling the correctness of the procedure with the help of a mirror. After irradiation of one tonsil, irradiation of the other tonsil shall be performed according to the same procedure. Each tonsil shall be irradiated starting with 1-1.5 biodoses, increasing the dose up to 3 biodoses. The course of treatment is 5-6 procedures.
The efficiency of treatment significantly increases if the complex of treatment includes lacunae washing from necrotic masses. The lavage is performed prior to UVB of the tonsils. Following tonsillectomy the irrigation of the tonsillar niche is performed according to the same technique.
Chronic periodontosis, acute periodontitis
UFO of the gum mucosa is performed through a tube with a diameter of 15 mm. In the gum mucosa irradiation area, the lip and cheek are moved aside with a spatula (spoon at home) so that the UV radiation beam falls on the gum mucosa. Slowly moving the tube irradiates all the mucous membranes of the gums of the upper and lower jaw. Duration of irradiation in one session is 3 minutes. The course of treatment is 6-8 sessions.
Clean wounds
All open wounds (incised, lacerated, etc.) are infected. Before the primary surgical treatment the wound and its surrounding skin are irradiated in dose 1-3 biodoses; from the distance of 50 cm from the wound surface the procedures are carried out on the subsequent days of dressings; when the sutures are removed the UVA is repeated in the same dose.
Purulent wounds
After clearing the purulent wound of necrotic tissues and purulent plaque, UVA is administered to stimulate wound healing (epithelialization). On dressing days, after wound care (wound dressing), the surface of the purulent wound and its edges are irradiated with UV radiation. The irradiation is performed at a distance of 50 cm from the wound surface, the duration of irradiation is 4-8 biodoses. The course of treatment – 10-12 treatments
Furunculus, carbuncle, abscess
The irradiation of the affected area is done from a distance of 50 cm with 3-4 cm of the undamaged skin along the perimeter. At the initial stage the doses are up to 3-5 biodoses on the trunk and limbs, and 1-2 biodoses on the face. The course of treatment is 4-5 procedures.
Rorrhoeal inflammation
The place of the lesion is irradiated with obligatory covering of healthy skin by 4-8 cm (depending on the localization of the lesion). The distance of the emitter from the skin is 50 cm. The dose is 3 to 6 biodoses. In case of rust inflammation of the extremities or torso, the radiation dose is 6 to 10 biodoses. The course of 2-6 exposures.
Injuries of soft tissues
The irradiation starts with 2-3 biodoses on the 2nd day after the injury from the distance of 50 cm with each subsequent session increasing the dosage. The course of treatment is 3-4 treatments.
Bone fractures
After the application of the Ilizarov compression-distraction apparatus, the ligament or intraosseous metal osteosynthesis connecting the bone fragments, UVA is prescribed on the fracture area. Irradiation is carried out in the presence of access to the skin, i.e. in the absence of a plaster cast. The treatment starts with 2-3 biodoses on the second day after a fracture at a distance of 50 cm, increasing the dosage with each subsequent session. The course of treatment is 3-4 treatments.
