Opatanol is an anti-allergic.
Pharmacodynamics
Olopatadine is a selective inhibitor of histamine H1 receptors, and also inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators from mast cells. It has a pronounced anti-allergic effect.
It has no effect on α-adrenergic, dopamine, muscarinic type 1 and 2, and serotonin receptors.
Pharmacokinetics
In topical administration, systemic absorption is low. Cmax of olopatadine in plasma is reached within 2 h and is 0.5 ng/mL or less to 1.3 ng/mL.
T1/2 in plasma is 3 h. It is excreted mainly by the kidneys. 60-70% is unchanged.

How to take, the dosage
Topically. 1 drop 2 times a day into the conjunctival sac. Shake the bottle before use.
Interaction
If necessary, it can be used in combination with other topical ophthalmic preparations. In this case the interval between their application should be at least 5 min.
Special Instructions
Lenses should be removed and reinserted no sooner than 20 minutes after the medication has been injected, as Opatanol contains the preservative benzalkonium chloride, which may be absorbed by contact lenses.
You should not touch any surface with the pipette tip to avoid contaminating the solution.
If the patient’s vision temporarily decreases after using the product, it is not recommended to drive a vehicle or engage in activities that require extra attention until it is restored.
Contraindications
Individual hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Side effects
Topical. In some cases (less than 5%): blurred vision, burning and pain in the eyes, lacrimation, feeling of a foreign body in the eye, conjunctival hyperemia, keratitis, iritis, swollen eyelids.
In 0.1-1% of cases weakness, headache, dizziness, nausea, pharyngitis, rhinitis, sinusitis, change of taste are reported.

Overdose
In topical application an overdose is unlikely. If excessive amounts of the drug get into the eyes, it is recommended to rinse the eyes with warm water.
Pregnancy use
There is no sufficient experience in using the drug during pregnancy and lactation. Administration of the drug during pregnancy, during lactation is possible in case when the expected therapeutic effect exceeds the potential risk to the fetus.
Pediatric use.
There is no sufficient experience on the use of the drug in children under 3 years of age. Opatanol may be used in pediatrics in children 3 years and older in doses similar to those used in adults.
