Cleaning instructions (for personal use)

Immerse the peak flow meter in a warm (not hot) mild cleaning solution for 2-3 minutes (5 minutes maximum). Rinse the peak flow meter in the solution to ensure thorough cleaning.

Then rinse it in clean, warm water and shake gently to remove any remaining water. Let it dry before using again.
Disposal instructions
The OMRON PFM20 Peak Flow Meter can be disposed of with normal household waste.

At the end of the product’s useful life, it must be disposed of in accordance with national and regional regulations. In medical institutions, in accordance with the requirements of SanPiN 2.1.7.2790-10 “Sanitary and epidemiological requirements for the management of medical waste,” the product must be disposed of as a class A product (epidemiologically safe waste, similar in composition to solid household waste).

Attention!

Do not attempt to remove the colored clips once they have been attached to the OMRON PFM20 Peak Flow Meter. They are designed to stay in place and not move around. If you apply too much force, the locking mechanism may break. This device is not a toy. Carefully! Small parts which, if inhaled, may pose a choking hazard.

Functional features

Peak flow meter care and use
This peak flow meter does not require much maintenance (other than cleaning). It is very important to keep the peak flow meter clean while in use. It should be cleaned at least once every six months and done especially thoroughly if it has not been used for some time. Otherwise, fungal formations may appear.

The mouthpiece is removable and should be disinfected before each use using a proprietary disinfectant solution such as Dettol. The OMRON PFM20 Peak Flow Meter should only be used by one patient.
How to record readings
It is very important for you to keep a record of your peak flow meter readings. You should take three measurements twice a day: the first in the morning and the second before bed, unless your doctor tells you to take measurements at a different time.

Mark the highest of the three readings in the Peak Flow Meter Reading Diary with a dot each day, in the morning and before bed. By connecting the dots (see example sheet below), you can see how your maximum exhalation flow changes from day to day.

If you suddenly experience wheezing or shortness of breath at any time of the day or night, be sure to measure and record your maximum expiratory flow rate using a peak flow meter.
Using the Zone Monitoring System
It is very important to record your maximum expiratory flow reading. Readings should be taken twice daily: morning and evening before bed, or as directed by your healthcare professional. Record the maximum reading in the attached chart each time.

Mark the reading in the table with a dot that represents the highest reading obtained each day in each series of three measurements in the morning and evening. By connecting the dots (see diagram), you can trace the dynamics of the maximum exhalation flow over several days. Measuring your maximum expiratory flow and recording your maximum result should also be done at any time of the day or night when you suddenly experience an asthma attack or difficulty breathing.

A three-zone monitoring system, organized on the principle of a traffic light, involves the use of colored plastic clips. It has already proven in practice its benefit to patients who monitor asthma using maximum expiratory flow readings. Once you have determined the green, yellow and red zones, write down their values ​​in the area below. Then set the zone markers on the peak flow meter according to the values ​​of these zones. This area also provides space for recording the measures that need to be taken according to the treatment plan, depending on the readings of the maximum expiratory flow.

Recommendations for use

How to use the OMRON PFM20 peak flow meter

1. If necessary, insert the mouthpiece into the peak flow meter. Make sure the arrow points to zero.

2. Take the peak flow meter in your hand so that your fingers do not cover the scale and air holes. Do not block the openings on the peak flow meter or the openings on the mouthpiece.

3. Stand up if possible. Take a deep breath, wrap your lips around the mouthpiece, while keeping the peak flow meter in a horizontal position, then exhale sharply with all your might. Do not allow saliva to enter the peak flow meter or cough into it as this will distort the measurement.

4. Record the scale reading indicated by the arrow. If you receive an unusual result and there are no signs of failure of the peak flow meter, consult a healthcare professional.
