Oftolik, eye drops 10 ml

The components of the drug Oftolik have keratoprotective effect – protect the cornea from drying out and irritation.
The active substances of this drug (povidone and polyvinyl alcohol) after instillation decrease surface tension of the tear film and decrease the possibility of its damage.
Polyvinyl alcohol has properties similar to those of natural mucin (the main component of mucus which normally prevents the eye from drying out) which softens and moistens the corneal surface.
The action of the drops starts immediately after instillation and there is no systemic absorption.
Indications
For the relief of symptoms of dryness, irritation and eye discomfort caused by external factors, in “dry eye syndrome”, in patients using contact lenses.
Shown as a tear substitute (“artificial tears”) in patients with decreased tear fluid secretion.
Active ingredient
Composition

Polyvinyl alcohol 14 mg.

water d/.
How to take, the dosage
Topically. 1-2 drops 3-4 times a day in both eyes, depending on the severity of symptoms.
Principles of Use
Wash your hands before using the product. Shake the bottle and remove the cap. Make sure the pipette tip does not touch the skin around your eye or the surface of your eye, to prevent infection. Tilt your head back, pull back the lower eyelid, invert the bottle and drip the desired amount of drops into the conjunctival sac.
The duration of treatment is determined by the physician according to the severity of symptoms. If there is no relief of symptoms within 72 hours, consult a physician again.
Interaction
Polyvinyl alcohol undergoes the esterification reaction characteristic of compounds with secondary hydroxy groups. It breaks down in strong acids and softens or dissolves in weak acids and alkalis. In high concentrations, polyvinyl alcohol is incompatible with inorganic salts, especially phosphates and sulfates.
The formation of a precipitate of 5% polyvinyl alcohol can be caused by a reaction with phosphates. Gel formation from polyvinyl alcohol solution can occur in the presence of borax.
Povidone solution is compatible with many inorganic salts, natural and synthetic resins and other substances.
It interacts in solution with sulfathiazole, sodium salicylate, salicylic acid, phenobarbital, tannin and other substances. The effectiveness of some preservatives (e.g. thiomersal) may be reduced due to the formation of complexes with povidone.
Special Instructions
The drug is contraindicated if the color of the solution has changed or it has become turbid. In order to prevent infection of the mucous membrane of the eye, care should be taken to ensure that the pipette tip does not touch the skin, the surface of the eye or other surfaces while the drug is being used.
The patient should stop using the product and consult a physician if:
The product contains benzalkonium chloride, so contact lenses should be removed before instillation and can be worn 20 minutes after product use.
