Pharmacological properties
Dexpanthenol is a derivative of pantothenic acid. Pantothenic acid is a water-soluble B vitamin and is an integral part of Coenzyme A. It stimulates skin regeneration, normalizes cell metabolism and increases the strength of collagen fibers. An increased need for pantothenic acid is seen in skin or tissue damage, and its deficiency can be compensated by topical application of Novatenol®. Its optimum molecular weight, hydrophilicity and low polarity allow its penetration into all layers of the skin. It has a regenerating, mildly anti-inflammatory effect, nourishes and softens the skin. The excipients help improve the properties of the cream.
Pharmacokinetics: When applied topically, it is rapidly absorbed and converted to pantothenic acid and binds to plasma proteins (mainly beta-globulin and albumin).
