Myo-inositol (inositol, inositol, Vitamin B8) is a water-soluble B vitamin-like compound.

The main function of myo-inositol and its derivatives is to participate in intracellular signal transduction and ensure the functioning of insulin receptors, reproductive hormones, catecholamines, growth factors, etc. Myo-inositol is necessary for functioning of systems and organs of the human body.

It participates in supporting the cardiovascular system, central nervous system and immunity (decrease of autoimmune inflammatory reactions), in sugar metabolism (mainly in insulin signaling cascade), in regulation of fat metabolism (due to decrease of insulin resistance and increase of production of adiponectin in adipose tissue, the hormone with anti-inflammatory and anti-atherogenic effects).

Myo-inositol improves the transmission of nerve signals. It is effectively included in the complex therapy of diabetic neuropathy and other diseases with impaired nerve sensitivity. Myo-inositol improves concentration and memory ability.

Mio-inositol is most studied as a dietary supplement to improve reproductive function. It is necessary for the reproduction of sperm, and it also has a central role in the triggering mechanism of egg division. Therefore, myo-inositol deficiency can lead to infertility in both sexes.

Lack of myo-inositol supply is associated with menstrual irregularities, infertility, polycystic ovarian disease and congenital fetal malformations. Myo-inositol subsidies improve the formation of ovulatory cycles and mature oocytes, increase the probability of pregnancy, and reduce the risk of gestational diabetes, folate-resistant malformations, and several other fetal malformations. Myo-inositol prevents excessive weight gain during pregnancy, counteracts the formation of glucose tolerance and insulin resistance in women with menstrual irregularities and has a positive effect on the blood lipid profile.

The development of PCOS and, as a consequence, infertility is based on the insulin sensitivity disorder of the body’s tissues and ovaries, which can be normalized by myo-inositol. Folic acid is a water-soluble B vitamin (vitamin B9) and refers to folate: a group of related compounds with folic acid activity. Folic acid has much greater bioavailability than natural folate and is quickly absorbed in the small intestine. Folic acid plays an important role in amino acid metabolism, protein and nucleic acid synthesis (primarily in DNA and RNA production) and chromosome repair, so it is very important for normal cell division and tissue growth.

Numerous studies have convincingly demonstrated the exceptional role of folic acid in the functioning of the reproductive system. Most researchers have concluded that folic acid deficiency in the serum leads to impaired follicular development and oocyte immaturity, to a disturbance of the ovarian reserve and prevents pregnancy in patients.

The intake of folic acid is extremely important because it prevents the occurrence of congenital malformations, including defects in the formation of the neural tube (the future nervous system of the child). To prevent neural tube defects and other malformations and complications of pregnancy, all women, without exception, preparing for conception should take folate at a dose of 400-800 mcg per day for 3 months before conception and at least during the first trimester of pregnancy. Nonprescription of folic acid, as prescribed in medical orders and clinical guidelines, is counted as a defect in the provision of medical care.

Myo-inositol and folic acid are natural synergists. Myo-inositol, like folate, affects DNA methylation processes through inositol-dependent proteins. The combination of myo-inositol and folic acid has proven effective in numerous studies and is used to normalize the menstrual cycle, restore ovulation and eliminate skin problems (acne, seborrhea and hirsutism). The combination of myo-inositol and folic acid has shown a significant improvement in ovarian function in women with PCOS compared to folic acid intake alone.

As an adjunct (dietary supplement) in the therapy of conditions caused by polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS):

– to restore ovarian function, menstrual cycle;

– to reduce testosterone synthesis in women and eliminate the clinical manifestations of androgenic disorders (hirsutism, oily skin, acne, greasiness and hair loss);

– for achieving desirable pregnancies;

– for increasing the quality of mature oocytes in preparation for in vitro fertilization;

– in combined therapy of conditions caused by insulin resistance, includingincluding androgenic obesity (together with dietary and physical activity correction).

For the prevention of neural tube defects, other fetal malformations and complicated course of pregnancy during 3 months before pregnancy and the first trimester of pregnancy.

Composition

The content of active ingredients in 1 sachet-stick:

Myo-inositol – 1000 mg. (Myo-inositol – 1000 mg)

Folic acid – 200 mcg. (Acidum folicum – 200 mcg)

The content of myo-inositol and folic acid in a bag-stick of Myofertal does not exceed the upper allowable level of consumption allowed by Russian legislation ^[1]

Directions for use

As an additional source of myo-inositol and folic acid, it is recommended to take 1 sachet-stick per day at any time of the day during or after meals. Duration of use: 30 days.

According to the doctor’s recommendation, the frequency and duration of intake may be changed. In therapy of conditions accompanied by increased demand for myo-inositol and folic acid, the daily dose usually does not exceed 2-4 g of myo-inositol and 400-800 mcg of folic acid, which corresponds to the contents of 2-4 sachets.

The duration of intake is 3-6 months.
