Metrogil, vaginal gel 10 mg/g 30 g

Metrogil is trichomonacidal, antiprotozoal, antibacterial.

The metronidazole nitrogroup is reduced in anaerobic microorganisms and protozoa, interacts with DNA, inhibits nucleic acid biosynthesis and causes the death of bacteria.

Indications

Bacterial vaginosis.

Active ingredient

Composition

Active ingredients: metronidazole;

Auxiliary substances: propylhydroxybenzoate, propylene glycol, carbomer-940, edetate disodium, sodium hydroxide, purified water.

How to take, the dosage

Intravaginally, once 2 g or as a course of treatment 500 mg/day 2 times a day (morning and evening) for 10 days. Sexual intercourse should be avoided during the course of treatment.

Interaction

Similar to disulfiram causes ethanol intolerance.

It enhances the effect of indirect aitencoagulants, it is not recommended to combine with nondepolarizing myorelaxants (vecuronium).

Concomitant use with lithium preparations may increase plasma lithium concentrations.

Phenobarbital accelerates metabolism of metronidazole due to induction of microsomal liver enzymes, cimetidine decreases it.

Special Instructions

Alcohol intake is contraindicated during treatment (possible development of disulfiram-like reactions: spastic abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, sudden rush of blood to the face).

Metrogil® may immobilize treponemes and lead to a false positive Nelson’s test.

At the time of treatment, it is necessary to abstain from sexual activity.

Avoid contact with the eyes.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity.

Side effects

Local reactions: burning sensation or frequent urination, vulvitis; in the sexual partner – burning sensation or irritation of the penis. After withdrawal of the drug – development of vaginal candidiasis.

Possible systemic effects: dizziness, headache, dry mouth, change in taste sensation, including metallic taste, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, spastic abdominal pain, constipation or diarrhea, dark urine coloring, leukopenia or leukocytosis.

Allergic reactions: skin rash, urticaria.

In case of any unwanted side effects, it is necessary to stop treatment and consult a doctor.

Overdose

There have been no cases of overdose of the drug when prescribed in the recommended doses.
