• Arterial hypertension (in monotherapy or in combination with other hypotensive agents);

How to take, the dosage

The drug Metoprolol should be taken orally, during or immediately after a meal, the tablets may be divided in half (but not chewed) and washed down with liquids.

In case of arterial hypertension, the initial dose is 50-100 mg 1-2 times a day (morning and evening); if the therapeutic effect is insufficient, the daily dose may be increased to 100-200 mg or other hypotensive agents may be used in addition; the maximum daily dose is 200 mg.

In arrhythmia, for prevention of angina and migraine attacks, 100-200 mg 1-2 times a day (morning and evening).

In secondary prevention of myocardial infarction – 200 mg per day, divided into 2 doses (morning and evening).

In functional disorders of cardiac activity accompanied by tachycardia – 100 mg per day in 2 doses (morning and evening).

In hyperthyroidism – 150-200 mg per day in 3-4 doses (morning and evening). For elderly patients it is recommended to start treatment with 50 mg per day. Renal insufficiency does not require dose adjustment.

In case of hepatic insufficiency, dose adjustment may be required depending on the clinical condition. If it becomes necessary to interrupt or discontinue treatment with Metoprolol after prolonged therapy, the dose of the drug should be gradually reduced by half over at least 2 weeks.

If withdrawal occurs, reduce the dose gradually. Abrupt discontinuation of the drug may cause myocardial ischemia and may lead to exacerbation of angina or myocardial infarction and increase arterial hypertension.
