Melissa herb is a herbal remedy. It produces anticonvulsant, sedative, antihypertensive, antispasmodic, antiarrhythmic, antiemetic effects.
The main active substances are essential oil components (the plant contains 0.06 – 1%) including citral, caryophyllene, linalool, geraniol, neral, together with terpenoids, phenolcarboxylic acids, benzyl alcohol glucosides, eugenol which additionally provide anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antimicrobial activity.
The active ingredients of Melissa have a mild choleretic effect, improves digestion, helps restore the secretion of digestive enzymes and saprophytic flora of the intestine.
Beneficial effect on the nervous system with the essential oil has a complex of trace elements (including potassium) and vitamins B1, B2, C. Potassium together with phenolcarboxylic acids and geraniol helps normalize the vascular tone and cardiac activity and provides a negative chronotropic effect.
