Meldonium is an analogue of gamma-butyrobetaine, inhibits gamma-butyrobe-tainhydroxinase, reduces carnitine synthesis and transport of long-chain fatty acids through cell membranes, prevents the accumulation of activated forms of unoxidized fatty acids in cells – derivatives of acylcarnitine and acylkoenzyme A. As a result of reducing the concentration of carnitine gamma-butyrobetaine, which has vasodilatory properties, is synthesized intensively.

In ischemia conditions it restores equilibrium of oxygen delivery and consumption in cells, prevents the violation of ATP transport, and simultaneously activates glycolysis, which proceeds without additional oxygen consumption.

The mechanism of action determines the diversity of its pharmacological effects: increase efficiency, reduction of symptoms of mental and physical stress, activation of tissue and humoral immunity, cardioprotective effect. In acute ischemic myocardial injury slows the formation of necrotic zone, shortens the rehabilitation period.

In heart failure increases myocardial contractility, increases exercise tolerance, reduces the frequency of angina attacks. In acute and chronic ischemic cerebral circulatory disorders it improves blood circulation in ischemic area and redistributes the blood in favor of ischemic area.

Effective in cases of vascular and dystrophic eye fundus pathology. Also it is characterized by tonic effect on the central nervous system, elimination of functional disorders of somatic and vegetative nervous systems in patients with alcoholism during withdrawal.

How to take, the dosage

Intentionally, before meals. Because of the possible development of excitatory effects, it is recommended to use in the morning and no later than 5 pm when taken several times a day.

Dosage 250 mg
The maximum single and daily dosage for adults is 500 mg (2 capsules). The whole dose should be taken in the morning at once or divided into two doses.
Course of treatment: 10-14 days.
The treatment should be repeated after 2-3 weeks if necessary.

If after treatment, no improvement or worsening of symptoms or if new symptoms develop, consult a physician. Use only with the directions, route of administration, and dosage listed.
