In the beginning of the course of treatment Maraslavin causes irritation, hyperemia and swelling of the gum mucosa. Due to the hypertonicity of Maraslavin the removal of toxic decay products from the gum tissues and gingival pockets takes place.
Then there is an increase of collagen fibers number, their thickening, formation of new epithelium and restoration of normal gum structure and strengthening of periodontal binding to the tooth root cement.
The treatment of the hemorrhagic form of paradontosis first involves the reduction of edema and bleeding of the gums, which first become pale and then pale pink in color and thickened, the gingival papillae thinning and gradually pressing against the tooth cervix on the sub-enamel-cement border.
The gingival pockets shrink or disappear. In the pyorrheic form, the amount of purulent exudate increases in the first days, then gradually decreases until it disappears completely. Gingival papillae are resorbed, the edges of the gums are aligned and pressed tightly against the teeth. The mobility of the teeth stabilizes.
Indications
Hemorrhagic form of periodontal disease with alveolar pockets. Complex therapy of pyorrheic form of periodontal disease. Postoperative period in the surgical treatment of periodontal disease.

How to take, the dosage
Locally. Treatment is performed by a dentist and begins with removal of supragingival tartar. At the same time, measures are taken to ventilate the gingival pockets with a spray or a stream of warm water.
Maraslavin is then placed into the alveolar and bone pockets with a probe using loose cotton swabs. To do this, 20-25 ml of Maraslavin are poured into a glass jar and abundantly moistened with cotton swabs whose size depends on the width of the alveolar or bone pocket. Tampons are left in the pockets for 5-6 minutes, and during this time tampons are placed on the other side of the teeth or in the pockets of adjacent teeth. This procedure is repeated 5-6 times in one session (consecutively in each pocket). With each change of the tampon it penetrates more easily and deeper into the alveolar pocket. The last tampons are left loose in the pockets, the patient is released until the next day with the recommendation to remove the tampons himself in case of fever (due to purulent exudation) or other health disorders and contact the dentist.
The second treatment session removes the tampons left over from the first visit and removes the subgingival tartar. Several tampons are placed in each pocket, as in the first session. The last swabs are also left in place for as long as possible for 24 hours.
The treatment should be repeated at intervals of three months. It is necessary to carry out 17-20 sessions according to the method described above depending on the degree of disease and the state of the patient. It is necessary that the first 5-6 sessions are carried out at 24-hour intervals. The following courses of treatment are prescribed by the dentist.
After 5 to 6 months after the end of treatment, a control examination of the patient is performed. Regardless of the condition of the gums, 1 – 2 treatments (more if necessary) of Maraslavin treatment of the same places on the alveoli in order to eliminate possible microbial pathogens. The final examination is done 12 months after the start of treatment.
