Pharmacotherapeutic group: Homeopathic remedy
Pharmacological action
Magnesium phosphate is an odorless white crystalline powder, almost insoluble in water and insoluble in alcohol.
The particular affinity of Mg++ cations for the nervous system accounts for the strong spasmogenic properties of Magnesia phosphorica, probably due to the simultaneous presence of the PO4- ion, which enhances the effect on nerve cells.
The action of Magnesia phosphorica is mainly directed to the CNS:
– on sensory innervation:
– acroparesthesia;
– pronounced neuralgia, sudden and transient, which has a wide variety of symptoms (feeling of “electric shock”, bouts of pain, etc.etc.);
– on the motor endplates of muscle fibers:
– convulsions;
– spasms and muscle contractions in various parts of the body, affecting both smooth and transverse striated muscles.
